  • New firmware for RNS510/Columbus versions 4120 and 5210

There are some new factory firmware revisions floating around the net.

Update: I would advise AGAINST loading version 512x these until we know more about it.

At a minimum, DO NOT attempt to load these without VCDS on hand as your RNS coding will be reset to default, so BT, OPS, RVC etc will likely not work properly until recoded.

    Now available

Version 412x has been tested and adds RDS and a male english nav voice as main new features. The original firmware image has been modified to conserve coding (no VCDS required) as well as 90/5/5 partition ratios for Australian maps, plus VIM and secret menu!

The main Australia firmware thread has been updated with links here

    Hear, hear buddy!

But would much rather hear the news of a revised map floating around!

Nevertheless, a really good safety sign to look out for is when units on eBay have upgraded to the new version.

Or just wait for kamold to develop fool proof link & guide!

If I brick mine I'll put my hand out for donations to buy a new mainboard, how does that sound?

Ok ... have successfully loaded FW 4120 on my H unit.

              Can confirm the following:
              • Has VIM & secret menu enabled already
              • Normal partition of HDD
              • Will lose custom POI & favourite destinations. So need to reload both via SD card.
              • I have no music on HDD, but most likely will lose music as well
              • Lose your custom settings on the unit. So just need to go through every button/menu and reconfigure (e.g. language, time & radio stations)
              • Lose your custom coding in Module 37: Navigation. So need to remember your long coding beforehand and paste back in via VCDS
              • Telephone & RVC remained intact. No VCDS recoding required
              • Map remains intact, but unit starts up in German and think it's in Germany. Just needs to lock onto GPS satellites to warp back.

              Only noticeable differences thus far:

              Improved seat details

Radio text display available under 'Extras' button

So not really exciting and somewhat expected based on the revision number.

              -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subsequent successful install of FW 5218 on my H Unit.

              Can confirm the following:

              Only noticeable differences thus far:

So again, not much difference from the new baseline set above on FW 4120, other than the following:
              • H unit appears to be a P unit after install
              • Appeared to have installed some DAB related software. But probably not functional as necessary hardware not there
              • Install only took about 20-25 mins only upgrading from FW 4120, whilst on screen message did say 56 mins.

based on all those "losses" and the "no gains" - i'll pass.

that balance fader is not new - unless there is some tiny detail i missed.

There is also radio text now.

                  Updated pics above.

Anyone's prayer answered with this feature?

                    AWESOME!!!

Of course it would look better having the RDS text where it's showing the clock instead of hiding the 6 preset buttons. Also gotta admit I'm not a fan of that colour scheme you're running there

Mate I'll have you know that that's the "Premium" colour scheme.

Cost me $300 at the time to buy the cable to change to that!

                      I'm shattered now!!!

Haha looks more like the Windows 3.11 theme. I tried a few themes when I got my cable but stayed with the grey-ish Highline theme, but doesn't look the same a yours. Which version of the RNS510 do you have, not sure if my C unit will be up to it.

Sportline is my favorite, has a nice cross hatching effect so it looks colourful without trying to look like silver plastic with the Highline or too spartan with the Premium

Giving 5218 a spin on my H unit, radiotext looks like a handy add-on
