New firmware for RNS510/Columbus versions 4120 and 5210

I've used DVD + and - R. No dice. But a tdk gold cdr that's all scratched up works fine. I will try and get a few today otherwise may have to downgrade to 3970 first as my unit was no where near as fussy.

Back on 4020 (90-5-5) now. Funny how I've lost the music data but not the maps.

Will there be a custom FW version that does not require VCDS re-coding? I sold my vcds cable a while ago therefore it is an inconvenience

Not too sure on that point as I don't know which part of the load resets the coding but I will look into when I can.

With these new firmwares we must burn them to DVD-R discs better than CD-R;
Also with Nero burner we simply choose from the recorder drop down menu the
Burn image option and then select 2x speed?
I m asking cause with both 4120 and 5218 i m getting swl error (cd-r media used)
while some months ago firmware 4020 was successfully installed again via cd-r media..

Its trial and error. DIfferent units like different media/burner/software.
Some good results reported with DVD-R media however with anything make sure you use slowest burn speed...

Plus here's some extra info on the DAB stuff. Is a DAB RNS510 coming out?

Radio text is such a waste of so much space on the screen for one line, especially when some stations have nothing at all.

My update went well with no dramas.

Which version RNS (letter) do you have?

I was successful with a Verbatim DVD+RW 2.4x disc (it's rather ancient). I had zero success with CD-R media. I suspect this is a DVD ISO and the firmware loader is expecting it to be a DVD.

Ok ... have successfully loaded FW 4120 on my H unit.

Can confirm the following:

• Lose your custom coding in Module 37: Navigation. So need to remember your long coding beforehand and paste back in via VCDS

I want to do the upgrade to get radio text, but i dont have vcds so worried what i'll lose...
