ANS-810 / ANS-510 (PROPER RNS-510 alternative)

Hi Everyone,

I know this has been discussed before but not sure if a solution was found. My ANS-810 has a hard time reading my 32GB SD card. Some days it reads just fine, others it says "BAD SD" and others it loads but then says the track is 12:15-12:15 and nothing plays and no menus/folders are available. It used to happen every other day, now it is most every drive. If I pop the SD card out or restart the radio, or switch from radio back to SD usually i can get it to go but some days it takes a combination of all these or 2-3 resets of the device. Then it picks up like nothing ever happened. Is my card going bad? Maybe I will try a new one or smaller one and see what effect that has.

Just wondering if anyone with a similar experience can chime in.

Yeah, I've exactly the same problem no matter which brand/size of card I use, I've logged this issue with Audiosources and mentioned to DKN, very frustrating, just hope they look into fixing.

Yeah, I've exactly the same problem no matter which brand/size of card I use, I've logged this issue with Audiosources and mentioned to DKN, very frustrating, just hope they look into fixing.

Well, I swapped out for a different card with a fresh format before loading my music files and even though it's the same size (32GB) it works perfect without any errors! Maybe the unit just has issues communicating with some cards. In the unit's defense, the card had some errors when I put it in my computer too. So I'll chalk this up to the card and not the ANS-810.

I'm interested in the 710 or may wait for the new unit, I have a 2007 GTI MKV and after reading the entire thread have a few questions

Does ANS-710 fit in GTI.. I assume it does but AudioSources website only lists it with the Toureg?

Does a MKV have a GPS antenna coming from the shark fin? It seems everyone wires up the antenna that comes with the unit and I have no probs with that, but if there is an existing GPS antenna in the shark fin that seems like it would be the best. MKVs with a factory nav unit must use the shark fin as they don't have an indash antenna?

Does the backup cam work in a MKV

What is the resolution of the 7"?

Anyone run TomTom or American Users where do you buy iGo Software and Maps, looks like it only runs on Iphone from website? It looks like if you buy from this guy or AudioSources you get maps and software (depending on what country you are in)

ODB Functionality.. does that allow you to see your CEL Check Engine Light Codes and Clear them or do you still need a VAGCOM tool for that?

The 710 is for the Touareg and will not fit in a Golf. The 7" Golf version is the ANS-610.

I'm not entirely sure if having a shark fin automatically means you have the GPS aerial, but if you had factory navigation, then yes the shark fin would have the GPS aerial. If so you can use a FAKRA to SMA adapter and connect it to the unit. Alternatively, wait for the new unit and it will have stock FAKRA connections.

There are reverse cameras to suit Golf 5, you can choose LED licence plate type or the VW badge type camera.

The OBD can read and clear DTCs but in my experience with most fault code readers they may not be able to read all fault codes. I don't think it can clear a CEL - it's not a replacement for VCDS, it's more used to show additional info and do acceleration & fuel consumption calculations.

I'm near the character limit for the first post so I haven't been doing much with it. Once the new unit is released I will start a new thread for that and clean up some info in this thread to match.

The latest M version firmware is M94-01-09. V version is V95.

In some unrelated news, I just discovered today that a Golf 5 climatronic upgrade to the Golf 6 version does indeed activate AC display on the ANS head unit.

One thing I did overlook with the climatronics is that I bought mine from the US and the driver / passenger controls are swapped around but I never use the dual zone function so it's not too bad.

I'm quite interested in one of these units, but I just want to ask if the iGo software is customisable with regards to themes, and how easy they would be to install? One of the main reasons for not pulling the plug on one of these is I just find the iGo software super ugly, and wouldn't want to have to look at that all the time. Has anyone created a "Golf" theme for the nav software?

You know as much as I know at this stage, Audiosources is hard at work preparing for the HK electronics fair at the moment which happens in the middle of this month. They may plan to debut the new unit then, but either way we can only wait now.

Try swapping it in the CANBUS with VCDS. I has a LHD CANBUS and had to swap it to RHD. Should work opposite for your situation.

It's easy enough to get skins for iGo, and I include a few more popular user-created ones with the GPS SD. Which iGo are you talking about though? Maybe you're thinking of iGo 8. iGo Primo 2 may not be the fanciest default interface out there but it's functional and I definitely wouldn't call it ugly.

I don't know of any Golf or VW specific themes made but who knows I might give that a go if there is demand and I have time. Installing a skin is as easy as copying the skin's zip file into the skins directory and choosing it in iGo settings.

The fair is still underway, why do you think they haven't announced it? They are currently showing off a Touareg RNS-850 replacement running the new hardware + software. They're still not giving a concrete release date though, I think they want to get the software to be more stable and bug-free before releasing this time. And so far, unless you're physically at the fair, no one has seen the software yet.

Thanks mate but I'm in Australia too Issue is with the programming / wiring within the climatronics unit itself because it's a US LHD model. My CAN-Bus has always been RHD, and so has my old climatronics unit. I'll survive with turning the knob on the left instead of the right to adjust the AC.
