I'll try to answer the questions as best I can.
The unit is a direct swap, plug & play no brainer.
You lose a bit of radio reception, other than not having AM signal, FM is shaky in remote rural areas / areas of high interference (like when you drive under some high voltage power lines, just for a split second).
There is no built in HDD, but at the front there is a separate SD slot for GPS and Media. There is also an external USB from the rear, which can be wired from the side of the glovebox quite easily, maybe I will post up a quick DIY later. memory expansion supports up to 64gb, but for SD card I believe the unit supports only up to FAT32 which effectively means 32gb.
I have not tested a 32gb card but I have a 4gb SD filled with mp3s of about 400 songs, there is no effect on load time (which is to say, <10 seconds on first boot, ~1 second to change songs).
The unit has satnav, with the latest iGo Primo 2.0 loaded with 2012 Aus+NZ map. I will send future updates to all customers, and this also goes for firmware updates for those who want them. These will be available online. I will be happy to step the less tech-inclined through the process, and help out physically with local customers. Naturally you will need an SD card reader, you can ebay one for about $2 shipped, otherwise most laptops these days come with them built-in.
In terms of output / input signals, the unit has, from the rear:
front L+R, rear L+R Out
subwoofer out
aux video in
aux L+R in
video 1+2 out (if you're really adventurous, hook up some rear seat LCD screens
)
reverse cam in
I am not sure what type of subwoofer out it is, I will double check tomorrow and report back.
All MFD functions will be as per normal - MFD displays from the unit affect only the infotainment screen. If you like to keep your MFD on the fuel / km etc display, that's up to you.
I am fairly certain single zone AC also shows up on the unit's display, as long as your MFD is white. I will double check this.
I am also not sure whether iPod screen will freeze under iPod interface, but I do not believe it will. I don't think cover art will be displayed, but again, definite answers will be provided tomorrow (I don't know any of this since personally I hate iPod/iPhone
).
