Firmware updates for European RNS510 units

It is not a downgrade error,
as I wrote: downgrade to 3970 is possible, but change not the partition.

I have enable the downgrade fw function for sure; and I have also tried the rest-function with the FW-Disc inserted. He don't want to use any SW lower than the 3970; independent if I start from 3970 or 4020...

3970 does not repartition the hard drive. You need to use 3810.

Try installing 3810 first (as kamold suggested).


If that doesn't work, then there is a firmware available which will format the HDD. PM me your email address, I will upload the FW version this weekend, and send you the link.
Once this has applied, you will need to re-load/update your firmware again to the required level, plus, reload maps, and music, personal POI's and custom splash screen (if applicable).

As I said....this firmware will restore your HDD to factory default condition.

So, I waste now 3 CD's and 1 DVD again with different versions of 3810.

All stopped with the same SW Error. I tried once again my 4020 from first page as I thought that my RNS is now broken, but installation (without format) was success.

As my HDD on my PC is now full with several versions I found the following "strange" issue:

If I look into the file: \FW4020_50_25_25\HDD\HDD_20GB\RNSMIDEC\CONFIG\DlSc ript.txt I found the position:
MULTI_VERIFY_HDD
I assume this is for the partition, as I would there three differences in various downloads:
MULTI_VERIFY_HDD 2 3 67 2 33 0 0 0 0
MULTI_VERIFY_HDD 3 3 50 2 25 2 25 0 0
MULTI_VERIFY_HDD 3 3 90 2 5 2 5 0 0

First is an old 2660 with 67% / 33% partition, next the 50 / 25 / 25 from the 3810, and the last the AUS-Version with 90/5/5. Am I right ???

Suspicious is the following:
Sometimes there is at the area of the folder \FW4020_50_25_25\HDD\HDD_20GB only the subfolder "RNSMIDEC", sometimes there are 4 more !?!?!?!?!

Is this maybe the problem why not all versions are doing a format??

Ignore the other folders, they are not relevent.
The only file that controls the format of the HDD is
HDD\HDD_20GB\RNSMIDEC\CONFIG\DlScript.txt

And you are correct the line multi_verify_hdd is what controls the paritioning.
You can't just edit this file however as you need to generate the correct CRC so that the disk will be accepted as a load source.

Can you post a screenshot of the exact error message and what part of the firmware load it happens?

Can you upload fw 3810a_noru.iso with 70/25/5 partition?? I can't do it with ultraISO... SW Error !! CRC problem.

Unfortunately I tried now several versions, but they never gave me 70/25/5.
As mentioned in my post above, I can see in the FW what the SW should do...
...but was never successful. I downloaded 3x 3810, 2x 2970 and 4x 4020 - nothing.

If I am not mistaken, it seems to me that it has errors in files modified in firmwares FW_4020_70_20_5.iso and SWL_CD_4020_M3_EUR.iso

in EURPQTO.WSH It is written

The code of the character "return to the line" is not good.

The delimiter of 'return' or next line is not required. It only makes it easier to read for humans.
Some people have loaded the firmware without issue. Those that fail are likely due to media read errors.

Feel free to edit the file as you like, this file is not protected by a CRC.

I do not agree.

The code 0A is not enough to indicate the beginning of the line of command. Like the "bad file" program undestand all as line of comment.

If "test mode" is a compulsory data to be configured, the program stop and fail.

Can be it is the same matter for the formatting 75-20-5

Test mode is optional.

As you have pointed out in your image, there is a . in between the comment 'test mode: active' and the actual setting 'setregdatahex'. You can have one . or you can have 99 .s and the setting will still be applied.

The formatting is controlled by a script file that is CRC protected however so it cannot just be edited without affecting the resultant CRC.
