Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on which firmware I should load. I have read through most of the thread.
I have a RNS 510 with the following
Part Number: 1T0035680A
HW-Version H04
SW-Version 1020
I'm looking at installing firmware 3810, can I upgrade to this straight away or do I need to do it incrementally.
Thanks
John

You can upgrade to 3810 in one step. No need to go via 276x firmware.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

Just thought I'd add my experience with firmware upgrade as it was quite a ride
I decided to update my Columbus (aka RNS510) to 4120 and after burning the CD away we went. The install was interrupted 5% into the APP update with a message saying that the media was bad. Frantic burn of new firmware, this time on a DVD, reinsert the DVD and things are go.
But, once HDD update reaches 100% it stays there. Gave it 1 hour, then another hour but after 2 hours of no progress I know something is up.
So, I reset the radio, the upgrade process starts again and this time completes. Relieved, I start the radio, nothing... the radio appears to work fine, navigation starts, etc but there's no sound and Audio and Navigation options are gone.
At this point, I'd like to really really thank karnold for his help. I messaged him that day and got the reply in the morning. He was kind enough to offer help reprogramming the system. In short, the reset halfway through the installation process managed to wipe programming for the Columbus system and put the amplifier into sleep mode.
On the plus side, the 4120 firmware feels snappier than 3984 and the radio text is a nice gimmick. I think I'll hold off any upgrades unless there's one that enables the TMC (unless that's a map update).
Lesson learnt... one think hard before upgrading and two, make sure you can get hold of someone with VCDS.
My understanding is that firmware upgrades don't usually go this way but when things go awry, they really go awry.

RE: Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ
From my understanding, rev A units should not go past 4xxx firmware. I have installed 5xxx software and V6 maps. I also set the DVD to region 0 and VIM so I could play any DVD. VCDS wouldn't allow this but I have repair software and an interface cable that can do a variety of functions not available to vdcs cable owners such as pin reset for legitimate owners.08 MY09 R32, DBP, DSG, GIAC, R8V10 reps, KW V3, RNS510/VIM/BT/MDI, region free DVD, switched Haldex, s2t paddles,HPA dogbone rubber,Mk7 climatronics, FIS+, Adams/RDA discs & Hawk pads, Garage button, GruppeM. There is no point installing 5xxx series firmware as it is for new EU units that have DAB tuners. No other features over 4120 which only adds RDS over 39xx.
SetConfig is a useful tool for some specific scenarios, you should add yourself to the upgrades/willing to help thread for those out your way if you are interested.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

I upgraded my Columbus FW this morning. No problem there, but I can't reload the maps. I fear I stuffed up when I moved the car in between loading the FW and trying to reload the maps. I think I saw something related on a thread, but I've trawled through some relevant ones but can't find it.
As always my timing is brilliant. I've got the car booked in at a dealer first thing tomorrow so they can look at the GPS antenna issue under warranty. Any suggestions much appreciated.

I had tried earlier today to load the original V3 maps when the V6 wouldn't load just to see if my V6 disc might be corrupted, but no download progress came up on the screen. I didn't even know if it was recognising the disc. After going back through this and other threads I went for a drive, and after a couple of minutes the map came up, but no POI's at all. Not even the factory ones. I parked up in the open and from the secret menu found that the V3 maps had loaded. I then reloaded the V6 maps without issue. I then loaded the POI files from an SD card without issue. So, all good now .... I hope.
