So did you have working POIs in 3810?

Also were you running custom/personalised POIs on yours?

If so, are they still working after 3970 upgrade?

My POI's were not working on FW 3810, the reason for this is because 2xxx to 3xxx creates 3 partitions instead of 2, extra for POI's, however 3970 has a bug and doesnt create the third, so works like the 2xxx firmware.

Yep ... clear on that bit!

And it makes sense now why my original 3810 experiment failed and even for those with D units that tried!

But there's just a comment from Josi in Maverick's 3970 thread which I've read to mean that personal POIs & POI search would not work however.

        - video in motion is lost only when upgrading to firmware 3800, with all other 3xxx it remains.
        - HDD is repartioned and music and maps are lost when upgrading from any 1xxx/2xxx firmware to firmwares 3800-3910. But in leaked beta firmwares 3930 and 3970 HDD is not repartioned, and if you are doing direct upgrade from 1xxx/2xxx to 3930 or 3970, the third partition for POI is not created and unit will not be able to store POI from maps disc or personal POI.
        - POI search with VW 7.1 beta maps stopped working after firmware 3810.

So firmware 3810 is still the best solution until official VW maps (CD_7476/CD_7477 or later) will be available.
Was hoping you could confirm whether that's right or not (if you're using a modified map with personal POIs).

Would love to be wrong but I doubt that personal pois delivered via a custom map disk will work
I don't think the new firmware is backwards compatible with the older format pois.
Please please please tell me I'm wrong.

Whilst for us in Aus the new functionality of the 3xx0 firmware is largely unusable, it does seem to have a faster update rate (at least on newer units) when in navigation mode which I like.

FWIW, just tried 2760 to 3970 on my C unit that was running a customised V4 map.

Took a couple of goes (i.e. re-insert disk) after getting disk error message mentioned.
But eventually fully installed after about 1.5 hours.

Definitely didn't re-partition HDD and still have my V4 map after install.
But unfortunately, I've lost all POIs again! (and just like last time with move to 3810).

So it's still a fail in my case!

Will see if re-loading original V4 map and then perhaps modified map will restore my POIs.
But from memory, it didn't work last time!

Otherwise, it's annoying re-install of 2760, modified map, VIM & modified boot logo.

In terms of the SWL error, my tip is to persist with the disk you've got.
It will eventually stop rejecting it and install everything.
Even though it looks like it's stuck at a particular no. of minutes remaining and you can't even hear any sounds coming from the unit, you just have to be patient and wait it out.

Just re-insert the disk back in, each time it spits it out and program will actually continue loading close to the point where it spat it out.
But if it's stuck for more than 30mins, then definitely re-boot and start again!

POIs were never going to work in 3810 :0 have you tried
going from 3810 to 3970? give that a go before you go back to 2760?

Its going to be this unfortunately. I can make a FW disk for you with custom partition sizes, VIM, custom logo etc so you only need to do a single load if that helps. I have SetConfig and the required hardware dongle to build custom images now with generated valid CRCs so the disk doesnt get rejected as an invalid source.

Sorry ... was dyslexic when I wrote it last night!

                    I meant to say 2760 to 3970!

                    Definitely didn't work for me.

So I'm putting it down to mine being a C unt [deliberate typo]

I reverted back everything this arvo.
The modified map disk actually loaded in an instant onto the SSD.
                    So wasn't too painful!

But definitely appreciate the offer buddy!

I don't think its anything to do with the revision of the RNS510. Its just a straight-up incompatibility with our old map data and the new POI format required for newer firmware.
I can't see a way it will work. We just need to wait for VW Australia to release an actually current map disk I reckon...

Well vraptor is definitely saying (by starting this thread) that he has working POIs on 3970, although this may not include personalised POIs.

But it did get me excited enough to give it a go.

I don't mean to be skeptical but I think that he thinks he has cracked it but I don't believe thats the case...I think that maybe vraptor has just found that the beta 39x0 fw image has the repartition flag set to off, thereby allowing installation over 27xx without needing the new 'firebolt 5' 3 partition layout.

vraptor, please let us know if you do indeed have the Sensis supplied POIs and/or custom personal POIs working with FW 39xx.
Would be most pleased to be told my assumptions are wrong
                          Thanks

yeah what tools are you using to customise the firmware as you said earlier? maybe we can customise it enough to do the things we need haha, such as poi's.
also maybe the bmw prof maps are more updated than ours?
