Picking up my GTI in a couple of weeks and am hoping to get bluetooth installed. I'm also planning to buy the RNS-510 sometime soon but have no idea which kit would be more suited to the RNS-510 in terms of microphone preparation. Will either of these kits mic work without any mods or will I have to splice wires If I get one and not the other.

Also would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me with the install and coding as I'm not that confident in ripping my car apart. Happy to reimburse for your troubles.

    Cheers
    Hey mate

Either of the kits would be fine for the mic fitment. The only reason you'd need to cut wires is if your GTI already has voice recognition and a mic in place, then you can choose to cut wires like I did rather than the hassle of running the mic cable (I judged it to be less effort).

Depends where you are in Sydney, but I might be able to help you out.

    Cheers

The coding is a bit convoluted. You need to enable the telephone in the central electronics section, then enable it again in the steering wheel section, then go into the telephone section and do stuff there, and then go into the radio and do more stuff. From the instructions I worked from:

‐Please recode the module 77 telephone:
      VW Golf/Jetta (1K9) / VW Passat (3C9) / VW Tiguan (5N9)/ Scirocco (13): 0A01000000010110 ( English )
‐Please recode module 19 Gateway: Please find 77 telephone and activate it
To enable the voice dialing, (key microphone of the steering wheel) in some cases it’s necessary recoding of Channel 16 Steering wheel, 07 in the recoding function will change the value of the digit in the position of the question 018?040000 if there is a 2 in this case we must change for a letter “A”.
nhand42 - Fantastic! You are the first person which can acknowledge it is possible. Is there any more details how about how to do it than the summary you have provided above? I have researched via the VCDS tweak thread, and found a good guide http://www.carsystems.pl/media/instr...oth%20v1.4.pdf - is this what you used?

That guide is heaps better than the instructions I worked from. Very comprehensive.

I wouldn't worry about the coding too much. The VCDS tweaking is the least difficult bit of the installation.

Ahh, if only it were true. I tried a couple of days ago, and in short, reality in my car is a lot different from the guide. I guessed the first two...
          Controller by Controller:
77 - Telephone: totally different coding; VCDS does show a box with Byte 1 and dropdown box (01 Inactive, Active (partial), Active). I choose the fully active option
16 - Steering wheel. Different module detail number; coding quite different. Bit 3 of byte 1; tick box for multi function steering wheel with PTT installed (I ticked it)
19 - CAN Controller - no change made: VCDS says "limited information available for this control Module...."

Now the Bluetooth module was factory installed, so perhaps the CAN controller is correctly setup. HOwever, can't be sure. It works, but no voice dialling.

Post changes listed above, the microphone / PTT button does not mute, but it doesn't do anything else either (sigh). FYI, I checked the model number of the bluetooth module, it is a 7P6 035 730 B which I understand is the MY11 module; so no surprises there. Not quite sure what else to do until someone else gets this going (FYI, I have screenshots if anyone is interested).

Yes... that's what we've been saying!
If you already have a mic there, because you're purchased a car which has "voice control", such as the Golf R (or maybe it's cars delived with RNS-510...), then you don't need to replace the mic, or even run a 2nd mic, you can just use the existing mic! As per what Pepe suggested.

                Hi Guys

Bit the bullet and ordered the 9WZ kit from the spanish guy which arrived in only about a week! Today went over to VA garage so that Adam could put it in. I printed out the instruction guide that was kindly linked.

But.... having trouble with the vagcom coding apparently. Adam says that he the car won't recognize the telephone part of the kit. He rang VW who said that the kit part number is not one for Golf. Something about it needing to be 1k9 rather than 1w9...

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated! Otherwise I guess I'll have to try to get the kit exchanged or get the 9W7 one instead. Sigh

I have a 9W7 working with an RCD510 and the white Multi-Function Display. In case it helps, I've dumped some screenshots from VCDS.

I don't think anything changes in 09 Central Electronics, but just in case.

Enable the Telephone in 19 CAN Gateway.

Enable the PTT button in 16 Steering Wheel.

Long Coding Helper doesn't work in 56 Radio. Here's the raw code.

                  Here's the 730C itself in 77 Telephone.

                  • Wow thank you so much!

I'll give it a go and hopefully it will work. Otherwise may need to swap for 9W7!

                    Will let you know

                      Just a quick update

Unfortunately no luck with the coding. Adam could not put a long code into the telephone and enable the telephone bit to start of with! Apparently when he puts in the binary it just says that it can't be done.

Maybe it's my car. Or the vagcom version? Or the unit...

Not sure what to do now. Any suggestions?

                      Thanks once again

                      • Does anyone know if you should be able to connect more than one phone at a time to the 9W7 system.

I installed the 9W7 in my polo last night and all is working great but I can only connect one phone at a time. Not a big problem just wondering if I should be able to connect more than 1.

I got the 9W7 kit from the Spanish eBay seller.

                        regards

You can pair a few, but it won't auto switch between them if you get a call on one that isn't the one that's hooked up at that moment... you have to switch manually.

Hi mate...did you have any luck with this.... sounds like I'm in a similar situation to yours and was looking to get the 9WZ - still trying to understand the pro's and con's - sounds like you may have hit a big con. Interested to hear what you did to resolve.

My last post was asking questions in regards to this:
