Therefore a lack of stereo would technically be a fault with the bluetooth module itself, phone incompatibility, or the set up of the RNS inputs.

The ultimate test would be to activate stereo streaming on the rns510 and then individually disconnect the pins for LEFT BT audio and then for RIGHT BT audio at the back of the unit. If disconnecting each channel results in the relevant side going silent, then it is a Bluetooth module or phone issue. If disconnecting one channel stops all audio, and disconnecting the other channel does nothing, then we know the rns510 is somehow programmed to duplicate one channel to both speaker sides, and ignore the other channel.

As a side, I noticed the spanish guy harness bridges the rns510 "Amp" output to the "Mute" input of the rns 510 - I presume this is because the rcd510 (not rns510) has it;s telephone mute pin where the rns510 has it's Amp pin. I have cut the connection to the Amp pin.

So you have confirmed the music stream in stereo over AD2P/Bluetooth ?

      • Yes, audio streaming of Bluetooth in stereo from my iPhone 4 works.

Do you happen to have any instructions on how to loom it underneath the drivers seat? I've got mine tucked behind the A/C controller unit but been meaning to find out which path to take to put it underneath the drivers seat.?

          • Hey Rank,
I took a few photos and wrote a little guide to show you how I ran the loom.

The Red line obviously indicates the direction of the run. To do this I first removed compartment 1. Then fuse box cover 2, then trim panel 3. Pry sill trim 4 up 3/4 of the way along the door. No need to remove the whole B pillar trim.

Trim 5 was quite tricky... see image below

Using a small/medium flat blade screw driver, undo the two screws at X. One of these is behind the bonnet release. Pull the bonnet release back as far as it will go to access this screw. My screw had a flat trim cap covering it which I had to remove first. It simply clipped free as I pried under it with a small flat blade screwdriver.

The next bit is very difficult. First lift the back of the trim up and over the accelerator pedal, then pry the trim over the bonnet release catch at A and the push the trim down towards the floor while rotating in sort of the B direction.

Once this panel is removed you will see the wiring harness that runs to the sill as indicated by the blue line

            ************************************************** *

There is plenty of room to run the loom underneath the steering wheel column, behind the little compartment and down towards the bonnet release trim.

From there I ran the blue tooth harness along the vehicle wiring loom in the bottom of the door sill. With the door sill trim released you can pull back the carpet and underlay to see the vehicles loom. I taped my bluetooth harness with electrical tape to this loom in 3-4 spots to hold it in place.

As illustrated in the above photo, I chose to depart from the vehicles loom when it reached the seat support frame.

It was then a simple matter of up and over the frame and out through the cable connection box under the seat. With carpet and trim back in original locations, there is no evidence of the new blue tooth cable until it exits the cable box under the seat.

I feel that this is the ideal location for the bluetooth unit. My phone bluetooth pair stopped working once and the only way to get it to pair again was to reset the bluetooth unit. The only way I was able to get it to pair again was by unplugging the cable from the bluetooth unit and plugging it back in again. I can only assume that this somehow powercycled the bluetooth unit. Needless to say this would not be fun with the bluetooth unit tucked away behind the dash.

              • Just FYI I installed the new 9W7 (5K0 035 730) build date January 2011, in a new MY11 Polo 6R TDI, along with a new RNS510 version D. This is the successor to the older 9W7 unit with part number 7P6 035 730 C. I believe it is different to the 9WZ (5N0 035 730) which also has rSAP. Thread here:

Not sure you need to post that in every thread you post in

That new part number in ETKA seems to be referred to as 9ZA... So yet another variation in the mix!

                  • Sorry mate I'm just trying to help out anyone else looking for Bluetooth+Polo, it was just so hard finding this info (calling the dealers was useless, they said the Polo doesn't come with bluetooth bla bla bla) and I basically took an expensive gamble buying all those parts crossing my fingers hoping it would work. (Especially given that non-GTI Polo's don't have highline MFD and I didn't even know if I could pair bluetooth without the MFD menu... luckily it all works super!)

That's interesting. I wonder which is better, 9WZ or 9ZA

Hahaha, I just googled it, looks like 9ZA is PERFECT for the 2011 Polo 6R: As per this brochure from March 2011,
                    9ZA = "Bluetooth Plus"

I'm not familiar with these codes RNS510 or RCD.I have an VW Eos Aug 2008 with a colour touch screen(which works with reverse sensors) stereo(not NAV)wich has a "phone" button on LH side of the screen and SD card reader in the middle at the bottom. The MFD(I think I got this right)is red display and I have a phone button on the steering wheel also.I'm looking to buy and install a BT kit which will link to my stereo, steering wheel and MFD.I'm not keen on voice control but prefer to be able to have my contacts display either on the stereo screen or MFD.After reading this post I think this unit is the right one for me

                        • Recently purchased the premium bluetooth kit from the Spanish guy on EBay (Bluewagen). Excellent price and kit was in my hands within a week.

Prior to splashing out on the bluetooth upgrade for my car, got in touch with Matt and his team at Camden GTI regarding installation and they installed it for me this week.

New unit works like a dream and can't thank Matt and Camden GTI enough for the excellent job they did installing it!

If you're in Sydney and like me haven't the faintest idea on how to install one of these units in your car, do yourself a favour and contact Camden GTI.

Just got mine from Spanish guy as well and will install myself and have found answers to all my questions except 1. As the kit includes the foam box, I want to mount the unit under the drivers seat. The cut-out in the carpet seems to indicate that the cable runs under the door sill, then to the back of the head unit, but I haven't been able to find any pictures on the internet, just a few passing references in regards to installs on mk v golfs, which say that the cables runs under the sill, rather than along the centre console. Just wanting to confirm the routing of the cable. Yes I know , its easier fitting the bluetooth unit behind the head unit, but I like the idea of making the install look like it was done at the factory.
