Hi all! My R36 Passat doesn't show my phone contact list on dashboard. I was informed our car's BT system is "old school" ie only receive and make calls. Can some one please confirm or correct my info. Cheers

You could have one of many ahem...'classic' BT systems. It may have been factory fitted, it may have been dealer fitted, or it could be after market.
What is the name of the BT module you connect to from your phone?
If you like you can send me your VIN in PM and I can check the PR codes for what was installed at the factory.2011 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI DSG wagon|Revo Stage 1|Race Blue|Leather|Dynamic Xenons w 6000K|9w7 BT|THA475 Amp+active sub|Whiteline ALK|RVC|

Your car did not have a BT module from factory.
So it's either dealer fitted or aftermarket.
'VW UHV' likely indicates it's a 9W2 module. Which doesn't support phonebook:
Volkswagen offers 2 different types of Bluetooth connectivity for 2010 (NOT counting the Routan’s Uconnect). If you have a Jetta (S, SE, Wolfsburg or Sportwagen), a Golf or a GTI you have wh…

Given the age of these head units and their basic functionality, it's hard to go past something like the RCD330+ upgrade for Android Auto / Apple CarPlay in a drop in form factor. You can go other branded head units with an adaptor, but I do like the OEM look.
That said, I have a Maxca (read cheap Chinese) head unit. It's plug and play, looks the part but has a few foibles.... like seemingly forgetting all it's settings from time to time and quirky volume controls and a touch screen that's not quite aligned to your input and isn't quite bright enough in daylight conditions (and is too bright at night)... did I mention it was cheap?
I keep contemplating replacing it with something nicer, but just don't drive the car enough to warrant it. That and once it switches to CarPlay, the lack of remembering settings doesn't really matter and you get used to touch slightly offset
BUT, I don't ever feel the desire to go back to the RNS510, CarPlay really is a must have in my life now.
