While my MDI works I've still not been able to get the AUX-IN to work though which is a shame. Worked fine until I installed the MDI. Not sure if it's wiring or coding or both, but if you get yours working I'd be interested to see what you did so take plenty of photos
It says on the Carsytems site that the Aux In 'gets lost' which I presume means it's one or the other, not both. I'm wondering if I got the right kit because my car has the Aux In (3.5mm in the centre consol), but I got the 111 Euro MDI kit on this page. Wondering if I should have got the 119 one. I was looking at the bits from the MDI module to the glovebox to suit an iPod, but maybe the wiring loom is different if you have the Aux In or not?
I don't, just would've been nice to have it 100% working if ever I were to sell it. I even purchased an MDI to 3.5mm adapter thinking that would fix it but no joy. At least it's confirmed and not just a problem local to my car.
I have just installed the 7P6 035 730 J from CarSystems.pl, under AU$300 , arrived in 4 days - put in a 2008 Tiguan with Red MFD.
Unit works great together with the RNS-510 touchscreen radio. It doesn't show anything on the red MFD, and the steering wheel telephone button doesn't work. This is because the module is too new and uses BAP protocol for white MFD rather than the old DDP protocol for red MFD.
Nevertheless those features are overrated, I always answer the phone on the RNS screen anyway because it displays caller ID and shows a nice big green button (and red button to reject). So as long as you have RNS510 (and presumably RCD510) the red MFD doesn't matter.
I had to mount the BT unit under the driver seat because it didn't fit behind the standard Climatic controls (the unit would fit behind the automatic "Climatronic" controls only) but it wasn't a big deal to run the wiring there, along the drivers side door sill.
For those guys with the fault code in VCDS "Telephone Control Module - open circuit" this means it's looking for the 3-button bluetooth control module in the roof (I think some older cars had this). Has nothing to do with the steering functions. You need to change the coding of the 77- Telephone module to "Control module - Not installed" to get rid of this error (I think the default is "3-button North America" or something similar).
Overall highly recommended, even with red MFD.
(It wasn't worth paying $150+ extra to get the old XXX 035 729 unit for the red MFD, and give up BT A2DP audio controls ("AVRCP")
My car (MY11.5) shipped with a 9W7 unit - 7P6 035 730B. I don't seem to get AVRCP on this thing.. is this 'B' revision (which I bought [I]last year[I] incapable of accepting a firmware upgrade to do this, requiring me to rush out and buy a new unit?
Yes the B unit can't do it and I've not seen any firmware updates for Bluetooth. Grab the latest version from CarSystems.pl if you really want the feature.

Received my new unit today and it solved some of my other issues with my BlackBerry as well. Now to see if I can find a new home for my older B unit. Cheers!
Edit: incidentally, it was a J, not an L unit. I hope that's not a bad thing!

Your older B unit will be very popular with the RCD510 crowd who don't have A revision units as the newer BT modules result in garbled address book entries on these older units.
After about an hour of reading posts I though I would be able to glean an answer to my question, but alas.. I couldnt.
I am not that techno-savy and hope someone in VWwatercooled ether can assist.
I have a MK6 Golf R with an RNS 510 and STUPIDLY did not get bluetooth fitted when I bought it, but now with new 'mobile phones in car' laws I find myself in need of a hands free system
I called VW and was quoted $700 for the "basic" kit that picks up and hangs up and $2200 for the 'premium' that has phone book etc.
My questions are
1) is there a mic already fitted in the car, ready to be connected
2) What is the cheapest way I can get a fully functioning, compatible bluetooth with phone book etc.
Dont want to use a headset or a clip on to the sun visor system as I do not drive a hire car or a truck.
All assistance greatly appreciated.
PS live in Sydney East so if anyone has used someone close that would be fantastic!
Many thanks.
1) Probably not
2) Buy a complete kit from carsystems.eu and DIY following one of the user guides floating around on the Internet. Then find a member willing to perform the VCDS coding for you (for some beer)
I am pretty new to the VW scene ... I have brought a R36 MY 10.5. It's has a RCD 510 and a white MFD. I would like to ask for some info as below :-
- I want to install a Bluetooth module to it and also be able to use the steering wheel buttons, RCD & MFD. Which model (9w7 ??) and what is the latest software version to buy and where from?
- I don't need to voice control it or voice dial. Do I still need to reprogram it with the cable?
7P60....L is currently the latest module (9W7)
Will need VCDS at least to get the phone menu in your MFD
First gen RCD510's don't have a video port for the camera (unless the car was ordered with a camera from factory). Best to pull the unit out and check for the large rectangular video port. You'll have to pull it out to install the bluetooth/camera so might as well get some practice now before you buy either.
Worth noting that you'll need a version B RCD510 for this to work perfectly with the latest module. If you have an older non A/B ver RCD510, you will be sad with the Telephone book not working on your older RCD510 and streaming not having track text / play control.
'A' versions work and the telephone book populates correctly, however, when pairing on occasion the RCD510 will reset which is lame. It works fine other than that.
'B' versions work perfectly.
You can pick yourself up a newer RCD510 from the forums here if need be. They pop up quite regularly.
