Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Looks like maybe I've lost green from the RGB camera or something? Any thoughts on the cause and the fix?

    Cheers

If I were to take a wild stab in the dark i would guess maybe the wiring going through the boot grommet from the camera to the head unit.
Otherwise if it's an aftermarket camera, it will have a CVBS to RGBS converter sitting behind the head unit. Try unplugging and reconnecting it.

Is it 3 separate wires carrying R, G and B signals from the camera to the head unit? You don't happen to know where I can get a B7 Passat workshop manual so I can work out how to get into the guts of the car?

If its a factory camera it is a composite signal that is then converted into RGBS to go into the head unit.
Try just pulling it out and reseating the 25 pin black multimedia connector towards the bottom of the back, it has a white locking bail arm.

It's factory. Bottom of the back of what, the tailgate or the RDS-510 (which is what I assume it connects to)?

OMFG, thanks kamold, that worked! So easy to remove the head unit too, 1 bit of trim and 4 scews. I'm so happy.

The reversing camera on my 2012 Tiguan Pacific with RNS 510 did exactly the same. It suddenly was showing purple tinge on screen and then a couple of days later I have no image at all, just a black screen when reverse is selected. I think the camera has died and will need replacing. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Yeah, the reset fixed the purple tinge for about a month, then the camera died outright just like you expierenced. To be honest unless I'm hitching up a trailer (which is almost never) I don't use the camera, just the proximity alarms, so I've not tried to fix it.

If you do fix it gwarra, let us know how.

                    Cheers

AFAIK the factory camera (which I retro fitted to my Golf) has plugs on both ends. I'd check both connections first then conside your options.

You could try a continuity test of each of the pins and if that passes it may very well be your camera. Given all the cables are in place, it should be a pretty easy swap over with another factory camera unit...

I love my camera and wouldn't be without it (in a Golf Cabriolet) but then I don't have parking sensors and you can't see behind the sizeable rear end

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Getting to the pins at the head unit is easy, I couldn't work out how to get to the back of the camera on the tailgate.
