No probs - hope to see you there.

Easiest is to just subscribe to those threads, as any future events will be continued in there, instead of making new ones that you may miss.

Hi All, considering buying an OBDEleven dongle but don't know much about it. Where is the best place to get one and how much does it cost? Also do we really need to buy the PRO upgrade pack or app? Thanks.

So we have a couple of Mark 7 Golfs in the family - can the module be used on different cars or is it locked into just one?

          Tks

It can be used on as many as you like as the dongle is linked to an account you have created. Mine is linked to my google account. It's been used on my MK7 R and a mates Audi A1.

Just wanted to give some props to the OBD11 team.

I have used the 100 credit app to enable Mirrorlink in Motion on my retrofitted Discover Media unit in my car.
I tried to do the same thing in an R32 Golf but the unlock app wouldn't show up because of the car that was being detected.
I raised a ticket with support through the app. A few messages back and forth and within about 2 hours of raising the request, they've updated the profile within OBD11 and the unlock app is now available for Golf!
Can't fault that sort of support and responsiveness. Its an advantage of the architecture of the application that they are able to do this however they are under no obligation to respond so quickly

Recently bought one from Autoinstruct.com.au and also go through pro version. Definitely worth it. I'm able to change a lot on my car as well as my mate's Golf R. Still early days and I'm still learning what everything means and what different settings do. Good fun though!

I thought I would download the app (dont have the device yet) but its telling me that it is not compatible with any of my devices. Phone is a LG V20 and also have an old Xiaomi phone (android china phone) that it wont install on either... Anyone else have any issues with this?

EDIT: Both devices running well over android 4.1

Their web site says something about not licensed in Australia yet, so the store won’t allow it to download. Hence when you get the physical device delivered to you, there is a link that comes with it so you can download direct from the vendor.

I got mine just last week and it’s fantastic.
I’ve done video in motion (for the kids), key fob active, heated seat memory, traffic announcements, removed nag screens on startup, and enabled fan speed display on auto. It’s very very user friendly.

                        Great buy.

OBDEleven - The new kid on the block!

Just order a OBDeleven from AutoInstruct.
Can i have some recommendations for a good but cheap android tablet?
I will only use the tablet for the OBD as I already have iPads....

Depends if you are going to have it connected all the time you are friving to take advantage of the guages feature, in which case battery life is important as they can draw current quicker than they charge or just connecting while parked to adjust settings.

If you're just doing settings places like officeworks have pendo tablets for about seventy bucks. While not brilliant they are good enough for being a diagnostic interface.

If you want to have real time monitoring there are better setups than the OBDEleven. I use dash command through an ELM327 OBD connector. If you go down this path be careful which ELM 327 you buy, some are too short/ large to connect to the VW under dash port.

Almost 2 years on from this observation, how does OBD11 rate against VCDS now? I'm wanting to do a few tweaks and can't decide on which is the best way to go for biggest database and simplicity.

brettue: Since I first wrote that quote, I have gotten a HEX-NET dongle/cable from RT - I'm totally hooked. What an utterly magnificent device - it runs like a cut-cat compared to OBD11 and it can be used either in cable mode, or wireless mode (uses WiFi). But it's very expensive and the price is not for the feint-of-heart. Still - I've been a "gadget-man" for many years and I've always valued high-end toys!

That said, there is nothing at all wrong with OBD11 and I still use it heaps! It's best feature is that I can make changes to multiple adaptation channels on the one screen (for a "leuchte-set" -say) -then I can batch implement the lot! Can't do that with VCDS. Sure, OBD11 is slower than the new HEX series devices from RT, but this doesn't really matter if you are not a tech-nerd like me.

Basically - it's a question of how you value the addition additional price for VCDS? Some think the additional cost is worth it, others think it's a waste of money. I happen to be of the former view - but it's perfectly OK if you fall into the latter camp!

I note that you come from the same city as do I. If you want, PM and visit the workshop - you can take both devices through their paces on my test-bench (my virtual mk7). Make any changes that you want - you can't break my test-bench no matter how much you may try!!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.
