  • Sticky out Miltek Tail Pipes/Tips

I had a Miltek cat back fitted to my Mk6 Golf R last month. Looked fine, sounded a bit naff, so had an APR downpipe fitted earlier (with the Stage 2 Tune).

It now sounds absolutely friggin fantastic, completely changed the whole feel of the car.

Problem is, and i didn't notice this when i picked the car up from Volksmuller, but the tailpipes are sticking out way too much now the downpipe has been fitted. They stick out that far that you can see the pipe they are connected to and quite honestly it looks ****.

What would be the best fix? Cutting and removing a portion of the pipe then welding back together or can the tips of the tail pipe be adjusted and moved back?

I dont think the tailpipes themselves can be adjusted on the Milltek's (some other exhausts can).

In that case your best bet would be to have a small section of pipe (might only need to be 5-10cm) cut out from where the downpipe and the cat back meet. It sounds like the APR downpipe is slightly longer than the stock one, and inturn it has pushed the rest of your exhaust back.

The other option would be to see if the APR downpipe can be adjusted - they use slip-kit joint so potentially the joins can be pushed further into the next piece (hard to explain but if you have a look you will see what i mean). Doing this might make the downpipe just that little bit shorter and get your tailpipes back in position.

Milltek tips do bolt on so can be slid back a bit, but if you get bangs under the car over bumps cold (or hot) you can slide the whole rear section forward a bit to get some better clearance.
You will find the tips stick out more when hot, so if adjusting yourself, keep this in mind.

        Cheers lads

And for anyone thinking of getting a new exhaust for the Golf R, i can honestly say that getting the Downpipe fitted as well makes it sound so much better
