Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Service will work on my car. Probably Performance99, which are Revo Dealers.
My car is 02/05/2011, but its date of the first registration. 2011 is manufacturer year and obviously its before 06.2011.
So i need to look for this part number: 0AM198140N Still will see if i get them from the dealer or from some shop in the internet. If the dealer keep telling me there isnt any upgrade on the DSG clutches.
BTW, you change your injectors rights? You get the revivesed ones ? Also you have intake installed on your car? And where you get Custom PCV & catch can ?
And how i can understand if my car have the Revised coil pack, injector and so on ?
And for the power i will not push it too much, 220-230hp will be perfect for me.
BTW how i can understand if my car have the new coil pack and injector version ?
    Thanks for the help.

Yep i changed injectors to the newer ones - 03C906036M - you may already have these injectors being a 2011 model. All 2011's should have them but not all did - seems VW used up old stock on some engines.

I have not installed an intake yet - as at these HP it probably only gain 5 HP at the top end and may even loose some at the lower end, although i am considering getting an APR carbonio (i'm not after too much noise on the intake).

I have installed a Golf R / S3 Intercooler, and also installed Audi R8 ignition coils (with a metal plate adapter and rewiring of the coil
      connectors)

I made my own catch can, which i have documented here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...an-113882.html

You can also follow my build thread here (i actually have a golf mk6, but post on the scirocco forums in the uk) : Scirocco Central • Login

I will write up my forged piston install / head rework project at some point.

BTW today i was talking with the dealer and he keep telling me that the DSG clutches are not revivesed, but he say their part number is: 0AM198140N Which is the one you give me ..... Fu**** strange. The price he give me is 550euro.
And this is the number on the new revivesed water pump: 03C 121 004JX
Also someone buy from this site? The parts are originals? oemvwshop.com

Sounds about right for a dealership - they are absolutely useless when it comes to parts information.

With your car being a MY 2011, you should already have the latest revision water pump / supercharger clutch.
The pump was revised in mid 2010, with the clutch material being changed so that it doesn't begin to slip/squeak.

            • Has anybody done a custom intercooler install? As in a universal intercooler mounted like the forge twintercooler? Would it be cheaper than the S3 intercooler or is that still the best option. From what I have read back in this thread you just have to cut your original hoses. Is the s3 cooler a fairly easy install? After getting my rebuild I want to make sure this car is running as healthy as possible. I will most likely go stage 2 after having these pistons for a while(why not!!!)

              Thanks for the help lads

I had the newer S3 intercooler with the plastic end tanks on it installed by my mechanic when the front came off the car last. Rawcpoppa did an awesome DIY on this here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ion-96566.html and there's some sweet tutorials on the scirocco forums.

The hoses did need to be cut (the metal end clamps anyway) and then hose clamps installed to hold the hoses on. Blower, who is on this forum too has a nice thread which shows those steps here: 1.4 TSI Twincharger (160) Stage 1 / 2 - VW GTI MKVI Forum / VW Golf R Forum / VW Golf MKVI Forum / VW GTI Forum - Golfmk6.com you can see he saved an extra inch of hose by removing the end clamps and not just chopping the hose.

The aftermarket intercoolers seem to be fairly expensive, you should be able to find a stock Mk 6 R golf or S3 intercooler for a couple of hundred bucks in the classifieds here or somewhere else. Heaps of people upgrade those on Golf Rs so there's a few around.

The intercooler did make a notable difference in the heat here in summer.

                • Thanks Mk R.

So the Golf R intercooler is the same as the S3 cooler or equivalent?

That would probably be very easy to find.

Yeah the Mk VI Golf R and Audi S3 of the same year share the same intercooler. I'm not sure what the part number was but you can probably see it in Rawcpoppa and Blower's photos. I've seen people put them up for sale from anywhere between $150 and $800 so keep your eyes peeled.

Have you spoken to Guy H about a 1.4 twincharger Stage 2 file? I'd be interested to hear what he has to say about it compared to the APR stage 2 file...

                    • I just asked my mechanic (Eurotune) if they have a used golf R intercooler lying around. The front of the car is off at the moment so I will just see how much they want to charge.

I sent guy an email, ill let you know what they come back with. Basically if I can get a cheap intercooler and find a decent downpipe with a 200 cell CAT I will most likely go stage 2.

First thing when I get my car back is oil catch can and a few thousand k's to bed the new pistons in. Then I will entertain the idea of stage 2. And be broke

If you aren't doing it yourself the biggest cost of the intercooler upgrade will be the time for your mechanic. If you can find one for 3-400 bucks it'd be an opportune time to get it in for sure. looks like there's some overseas genuine parts on ebay for about 3-400 delivered.

The catch can setup blower did looks like a really good setup.

Downpipes for these engines seem to be another pain in the wallet. The only constantly available option seems to be the bull-x down pipe with sports cat or this one on ebay: Downpipe Auspuff 64mm MIT CAT FUR VW 1 4 TSI Golf 5 6 Scirocco NEW Beetle | eBay

neither fit onto the stock exhaust and to me, paying 10% of the value of the car just for a downpipe is absurd.

The 1.4 TSI scirocco owners in Europe seemed to be mad keen on getting more power so there'll probably be a few used downpipes floating around there for sale.

                        • Just got a really good deal from my mechanic. They have an S3 cooler in the garage and charged me $350 installed. The front of the car is already off so its really not difficult for them to whip the old one off and bolt it up. Considering that I am paying $7500 I think they might have just done me a good deal.

I wonder if it is worth getting a custom DP made up from a shop. Could be cheaper...maybe? Tough part is keeping the heat from the cat out of the engine bay.

I agree, that setup blower did looks legit. I am going to do something similar to that I think.

You haven't gone stage 2 yet have you?

That's good, you've given more than your pound of flesh to the mechanic profession this month, man!

I haven't installed my turbo back milltek yet (getting a resonator fitted first) but one thing you'll be able to see when you get the down pipe in hand is it's significantly thinner at the cat than the stock (which has a built in heat shield). My plan is to start with a wrap on the pipe, then wrap the nearby hoses, then seperate them both with some dimpled heat shield. That should be plenty considering the proximity of those hoses to the already exposed exhaust manifold and turbo underside. One section that might be trickier is the intercooler return that passes by the exhaust. If i can fit some insulation there too I will.

The only other thing for you now is a VWR or Carbonio intake, if you can find one cheap, and removing the supercharger sound insulation. Really brings out the supercharger whine and gets more air passing over hot induction parts. I'm really keen to hear how your car feels after all the work done.

                            • Yeah I guess you can't be to careful when trying to eliminate that heat from coming into contact with things. When you eventually get to it, make sure you post some pictures up. I want to try and keep my engine bay as clean as possible so it will be good to see how you insulate it.

I posted some pictures about 3 months ago of my custom intake setup. I basically copied the BSH trueseal intake. It was really simple and I found it a lot better on hot days.

I will definitely let you know what it feels like when I get it back.

I got a response from GuyH today. Stage 2 software is $180 as I already have there software. I think at the moment the Bull-X downpipe seems the best for me. I want to keep my cat-back stock as I'm not really after noise I'm more keen on the performance. I never wanted to spend this much money on this car. But it's almost like it forced me to and now there is no point not going stage 2. I doubt I would ever go past stage 2 though. When I can afford a Golf R then definitely.

Ah didn't know you already had an intake setup, thats perfect then.

Man, we've all spent way too much on these cars now. I'll be keeping mine till it runs into the ground or gets written off. There's literally no decent financial value in selling it and it's such a sweet ride. I can almost get to the snow and back on one tank from Sydney and the heated seats just rock my world. I just had the roof lining re done by a local guy and the only other maintenance it could use is a set of contisport 5s and a replacement head light assembly on one side because the plastic has crazed in the UV.

I'll definitely post the downpipe install and heat shielding.
