Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • It would do an 11 no problem perhaps even a high 10 with the DSG.
The thing is you lose the round town driveability as its a bit of a dog off boost. There are some newer GTX turbos though and theres Borgwarner options too and I'm trying to resist going down this path yet again .
You need to find some TFSI injectors capable of supplying the fuel too so it gets a bit expensive

Then you'll be doing a 12 flat down the quarter. There will be no need for more power.
Nah will never go down the path of a bigger turbo.

I like the day to day driveability and no lag of my setup.
Its my daily driver, and as Mark mentioned above, i dont want a dog off boost

Its believed with my set up, and stock KO4, the right conditions and race fuel its capable of breaking the into the 11's.

The thing is quick enough for me as it is now. Im very happy with it.

ou'd never buy the GT28, laggy POS, either a 3071 with a larger turbine housing or perhaps the 3076 with a .78 or .86 . If you did this with a DSG you'd need a full DSG remap and new clutch packs

What kind of lag are we talking about here for those options?

                  • Too bad they dont have a K05 or K06 - just a bit bigger than the K04. I believe there is a K24 but not sure of the specs.

                    • I think Dario is onto a good thing with the new Borg Warner EFR. its not too big so it should still provide a good punch down low

If you go bigger expect a mid 3K rpm or perhaps even 4k before you hit full boost. You can see how a DSG car would suck like this without a remap.

                      • I'd probably opt for the GT3071 ATP kit. Cost is cheap, easy to fuel, all parts included, stock internals ok. I'm waiting for someone else to do it so they can take me for a spin. If it sucks at least I didn't have to waste my money lol.

I've been told by my workmate who loves mod cars that exhaust shouldn't cost more than $2000. Milltek is touching $3000.

exhausts can be expensive but good quality is worth paying for.

Fab runs this on his R and is quite happy with the quality of the work! Its one of the better value for money dp's for the R's on the market. Eurojet is another maker that does top notch work and charges a reasonable amount. But their DP for the R is still in developement I've been told, but will be available soonish.

I have a TXS dump pipe and its brilliant. Quality is top notch and so is the performance. There are quite a few of us R owners running them with a recode tune in sydney with excellent results. There is a thread on the tune with the dump pipe in this forum with dyno charts etc...
Absolutely loving my Golf R and hearing the Miss' scream when it come's on boost!!

                              • Yep, just about all of the Recode cars are running the TXS downpipe. We all got excellent results and it's dirt cheap vs other brands.
