Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

According to the website, this is not a "full exhaust", it consists of a dump pipe and hiflow-cat which is then joint to the stock cat-back.

      Still a good price though....

Turbo XS to me, screams budget.. Made in China?

Then again there are a couple of brands that are just reaming unsuspecting people for $ for an exhaust..

dont hate the game.. Hate the exhaust quality..

Im still going to go Hi_tech when the time is right.. $2700 odd for the full system retail. Mad quality.

im not rpeaching "my mates" business. These people are just that good!

The Dump is Australian designed and manufactured, in Horsnby .I thought this was at the top of the thread but I must have left it out.
To allay Rexmans fears of low quality I can say that all the TurboXS stuff is heavy gauge 304 grade stainless including all the flanges and its very well constructed beautiful welds and so on.
I use two exhaust companies in Oz for most of the cars These being TurboXS and Hitech and I know the guys at both places. I don't get any kickbacks of any sort apart from an odd slice of pizza perhaps. Both places are really good,, one manufactures their exhausts in Bathurst with a frontage in Taylor Square and the other in Hornsby. What I do get is a chance to have some input in how I would like a particular component to be made so I can control my tunes to some extent. Just common sense stuff really.
The exception for some of the TurboXS gear is say the cast stainless bellmouths as used in their WRX dump pipes for example, these are made in their Aus staffed Chinese based factory. It wouldn't make sense to make these locally at Hornsby

          Hope that clears things up

I haven't had a chance to get mine up on a hoist since I got it back last week but having seen the other pipes they had sitting around the factory when I've been there the TXS gear is definitely up there for quality. I don't know where you are in Sydney Rexman but happy to arrange a viewing of mine if you like. Better still if you are in the Hornsby area look them up and go check out the product yourself. They're only just getting into the Euro market but plenty of feedback on WRX and Evo forums about the TXS product.

Was back at TXS today for Mark to run some logs now that the TXS DP is on my car. Had some fairly interesting results:

Here is stock vs the APR DP which we did back in March and is the set up that I ran at the dyno day the other week which resulted in 197.9 on the day:

Couldn't remember exactly which stock file we'd used on the last comparo when we ran today but the one we used was fairly close. Here is stock vs TXS DP today. The tune file is untouched:

              Now where's my HPFP .

For those that may doubt the results and for those that are interested I have some photos to compare the APR and TXS downpipes

                        Top view of both together

Top view of just the APR

Front view of the APR so you can see what the exhaust flow out of the turbo is up against

                        Front view of the TXS.

Haha WTF is with that? Seems like half of it is blocked up!

They have to drop the front subframe to do the DP yeah?

lol... The turbo opening isn't blocked by the red marked areas of the APR exhaust in the pictures above... the red circle is where the 3" pipe attaches to fine, but the turbo output goes into the "black opening" which from the photos is the same size on both exhausts.

The difference is what's past that opening. It's the often debated argument between a "bell mouth" and "divorced" turbo down-pipe design. In a bell mouth design such as the Turbo-XS, the turbo output and the waste-gate output flow into the same "mouth". In a divorced down-pipe the waste-gate output flows into the divorced pipe and is merged in with the turbo output further down the pipe.

There are pro's and con's for both designs.
Which is better? I've no idea. I'd say it depends on the engine and turbo in use.

But lets not post up pictures with MS paint red arrows and circles which incorrectly claim that one is blocking half the turbo's output - because that's not the case.

Other than that point, thanks for the photos
