  • Won't be long Joe.

Expensive? depends on what outcome you are after, we have built lots of cars now & spent money in different ways, our budget was set for this build before we even took delivery - good thing is, all the mods & gains made in different area's will pass down to the average customer, so you can do it step by step & have a multi tiered upgrade path!

Did you check out the weight savings on the front brake assembly?

    • Yeah, the brake weight saving is impressive! Less than HALF the weight and a HUGE increase in brake size, plus 4(?) piston calipers.
Out of interest Guy, what is the weight saving for the Golf R stock > Alcon upgrade?

      • looking good!
Thats some nice torque down near 2500 rpm, i'll be interested to see what the basic tune alone produces.

Golf R 355mm mono 4 Alcon kit is just over 16kg's lighter than stock R brakes (over 8kg's per side!)

yeah, it's got great power characteristics. A lot of those dyno runs were stock / stage 1, then exhaust, intercooler & airbox separately. each added differently to the power.

            • Guy

Looks great - I am down for the lot except the tyres and paintwork.

How are the Torque Steer and Traction issues looking now?
How about putting the battery back under the bonnet for added weight over the front wheels and gaining boot space?

              Cheers

                • I wouldn't expect it to be given the engineering required to couple a ferrous rotor with aluminium based top hat They must be using floating buttons to allow for the different expansion rates and I hate to think of the load requirements of the buttons and the holes in the rotor and top hat.

                  • Have not spent a lot of time behind the wheel, torque steer is minimal, traction is now much improved.

Alcon's work out at ~ $3750, where as Brembo's with a one piece rotor are $3200, so it's not a huge amount to pay for the performance increase. The main reason to run Alcon's is so you can go & cut 50 laps on the race track. They feel exactly the same on lap 50 as they do on lap 1. Depending on your street needs, some good pads & fluid would suit most peoples needs.

                    • Guy, are you also going to be doing a bolt-on rear anti-sway bar or just the front? I ask because all the literature regarding front wheel drive cars say to fit a rear anti-sway bar before fitting a front.....

                        • Still waiting on the website update.

The car has both front & rear swaybars fitted. When it arrives back from Wakefield, we will have some more photo's of the sway bar setups. We expect to have release of the swaybars in early June.

                              • Could anyone give me an indication on how much would cost to upgrade a Polo GTI's ECU, brakes (4 pot Brembos front) and suspension (swaybars, dampers, springs)? Are we talking over $7k?
