Given the exchange rates I would have thought a permanent adjustment may be in order. When US APR distributors ae quoting $549 to do the upgrade, I am wondering what is going on over here - $1695 can't be serious?. Supply, demand, competition etc adds up to something, but not three times the price for exactly the same software.

I had APR Stage 1 in my Polo GTI and was very happy, but the gap is too great between the different brands so my new Golf GTI is probably going to be sampling one of the others.

    • So, when is this ECU upgrade from APR coming onto the market? I bet it might be after the Easter sale

      • Still trying to get it officially released (just numbers), it's on sale, so if you have your car already, you can get it done.

        • P.S. Stage 2 will take a while yet (hardware), we will be working on that over the next month to get all the pieces into production.

          • Any simplified dyno readings to share?

            • No simplified ones yet, thats what we have been waiting on from APR is the web graphs. Have 35 Dyna-Pack runs sitting here in our office if you want to see them.

Which car do you think makes more power stock? 118TSI Golf 6, 125kw Golf 5 twincharger, 132kw Polo GTI?

                • I think its the curve that kills it. I'm not sure if it's a car worth molecule too much, you'd be better off with a Golf GTI platform. Should scoot along well with the tune.

                  • Hi there Mr Harding, I am picking up a Polo GTI shortly. Looking forward to the tune. Have a question about the Brembos or Alcons. Are they noisy? Or is it stock like. I'm talking clunking noises. My AP Racing used to do it, as does the PCCB on my GT3. Given this is going to be the missus' city car, it's a no no (I can't let her know I'm modifying it lol).

                    • Why would you put big brakes on your girls car?

                      • Hi Wayne, Hope all is well.

We love the Alcons because of the repeatability in performance & brake pedal feel. Depending on the pads you use, they can be pretty silent. If you use the Ferodo DS 2500, they are good for daily driving. We use the PMU HC 16 + for track work & actually James runs those on his daily driver Golf Stage 3 & they don't make any noise.

The Calipers make a small "clunk" when you roll forward or backwards, just the caliper to pad clearance, but once you are used to it, you wont notice it.

                          Because I can? Lol.

I like cars that stop faster than it goes! Seriously, for me, brakes are just as important as the go fast bits. But I hear you, it may be an overkill.

I am good Guy. Hoping to see your Cayman Turbo one of these days! All going well with it?

I will see what the stock brake is like first I guess. Planning to do a mountain run with our Clio RS and a modded Mk1. Should be fun. But chances are the brakes won't hold up so Alcon may be a good option. What do they cost?

                            • The Cayman is still a lot of fun, just got back from the Bathurst Easter motor festival - Nothing like pulling 6th down Conrod straight & sailing past 270kmph

I'll have to work out what the brakes cost (I think around $3300 once we get the bracket costing finalised), good thing is they are small diameter & light (saves about 8kg per side!), you can still run a 17" wheel (keep the weight down too) and a reasonable tyre.

Keep your eyes peeled for next months Motor magazine test

                              • The Cayman sounds like it is faster than a GT3...is that the case?

What size rotors come with the Alcon? As well as being fade free, is it also much more powerful? I know when I put the AP's on, the first thing I realise is how much faster it stops the car!
