Oettinger is APR's preferential partner for TDI tunes.

these can be done at Volkspower or Melbourne Performance in VIC!

Thanks guys. The nice thing about a remap is that there's nothing for the wife to see!

Indeed; I had an awkward moment the other week at a friend's gathering to watch the Bathurst. Whilst chatting with my friend and his wife - she mentioned how much she liked that their car was stock and how much she wanted to keep it that way; my friend and I glanced at each other, and could not hold back the giggles. Needless to say she was quite cross with him for not consulting her first!

It does go to show however that thanks to modern engine management, OEM drivability and feel can be retained even despite drastic improvements in peak power.

I received the following email from Superchips in the UK after I enquired about ordering the Bluefin:

"I have since spotted another e-mail from you saying that the car is a 2011 Golf 118 TSI? Is this a 1.4 TSI 160 PS? If so, it is probable that bluefin will not be compatible, because for the last year VW has been phasing in the use of a new type of engine management system that does not allow reprogramming through the diagnostic port."

I've ordered a MY 2011 Golf GTI ie build yr Dec 2010 or Jan 2011.

Any idea if the Bluefin is compatible with the car?
The local agent is having a sale on bluefin atm.

Whats the sale price? I'm STILL tossing up between one of the bluefin units or a proper remap. So hard to decide but i'm swaying towards a remap tbh.

Well a bluefin unit is a "proper remap"; that is, it remaps your ECU and you don't need to have it always connected or anything like that. So as long as it is compatible with your MY11 GTI, then all is fine. Most tuners offer similar units for the Mk 6 (including DNA Tuning =) ), but there are always alternative methods/tools for remapping the ECU if these handheld tools are incompatible.

I have had excellent service from Superchip UK.
I initially purchased a blufin handset Dec 2009 to install a stage 1 map to my then standard octavia 1.8tsi. The bluefin arrived from the UK within 5 days of ordering and the uploading of the map was pretty easy.

I would recommend however that anybody who remaps their car (with whoevers software) has it dyno checked. Reason being that after the stage 1 map was installed I was keen to see the results on a dyno. The dyno revealed that the mixture was running lean at boost up
and could have caused detonation. I emailed Superchip with the dyno result and was quickly given another map. The remap fixed the problem.

Hi, I am really interested in the Superchip alternative to APR because it is less than half the price. I have a few questions:
                            1) is it really so easy and failsafe to revert to Stock and then back to Superchip again using the device as described in the manual? How does it take to do each process?
                            2) If the stock ECU gets and upgrade from the VW dealer, then do you need to back up this revised version to the bluefin device again? I guess you will have to so that you can revert back to the revised Stock version. If you do, do you need to send this VW revision to Superchip for another revision of the superchip product? Hope you understand what I mean?

Hi mate, when you have supped out the eeprom info that then gets saved in the Bluefin unit, this is your original ( standard) file. The tune file you get also gets saved to the Bluefin unit so essentially you have an external hard drive with 1 tune and 1 std file, thus you can revert back to std in minutes and the same goes when you want to retune
                              Hope that helps

Has anyone had the MY11 1.4 118TSI flashed with superchips? Does it get rid of that lag on acceleration that so many people say that the APR flash does?

I'm leaning towards superchips purely because it seems its very easy to switch between stock and custom flash. Very good for taking the car back to stock before going in for a service. If you reverted back to your original flash, can the VW service center see that your ecu has been messed with?

Oh and one last thing, does anyone know if many MY11 118tsi's have encyrpted ecu's? I'd hate to have ordered the superchips then find out I can't use it.
