Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

We need to re-do some calculations here. K03s are going pretty hard to produce 180 at the crank.

Just checked the Dyno printout. 181.4 HP ATW. I was not the most powerfull dyno on the day, maybe the rig was favoring us...

180 at the wheels is a lot more like it. How much were you down compared to the others?

Mine was 135kw, I think someone pulled a 140 or 139. My APR seems to die off over time, they say to drive it harder, but I think I flog it reasonably...

Really should get it smoke tested, anywhere in Sydney do this for a reasonable price?

yeah, the dyno was reading on the low side apparently, I don't know the exact details, something about calibration.

I did a few dyno runs with my Polo GTI when it had APR chip and intake system. It always seemed to run between 122-125kW atw. I've used a few different dyno's in different weather conditions. Other Polo's with similar mods were running very similar numbers, so I find it hard to believe a 135kw atw run being just chipped. I understand you have the printout but that dyno you were using is the thing with the issue.

Your results are well above APR's claims, surely if it was accurate they'd be claiming higher if thats what they were getting. Mine and other Polos results are pretty much spot on with APR's claims. HOWEVER, one of the guys I did a dyno day with DID run a 137kw atw in his Polo...... it had APR V2 chip, APR intercooler, full APR exhaust, Forge intercooler piping and intake system.

As for superchips, a recent dyno day saw Superchips slightly topple the APR lads in the Polos which I was surprised with. In most cases not by much but certainly did.

                  mine is one of them

not sure if they have bypassed it as yet, but they can still do it, however they need to remove the ECU.
I did not want this done so waiting to see if they can beat the encryption.

I don't think I said that was my only mod, the list you have looks alot like my car accept I have the Forge cooler and custom downpipe instead of full exhaust. I don't really care too much if the machine was giving me 5% more than i really have, it showed me my car was running well, thats what I wanted from it. The numbers do seem high, but they were banging through the cars on the day, so all I can really compare is that it was close to the other Polo's.

Hi mate, to find out if yours is encrypted you will need to have the ECU read. Then we will know, the Gti encryption is less common than the diesels at this stage, we have done a few Mk6 and even Bluefin on a Golf R. Most Diesels after Sept 09 are CMD/BDM tune the ECU off the car. Not too much of a problem really we have specially jigs which reqs absolutley no soldering. As per instruction they should be soldered to power and boot but that has been overcome and no soldering is performed now for the win. Only draw back of encrypted software is the ability to switch from tune to standard.
                      Cheers

has anyone in North Queensland had a Golf R done? I ask because VW detuned the R due to Australia being a HOT climate. Just want to know the side effects of Having an R chipped and then driving Between Cairns and Mackay twice a week. I don't want to shell out 900 clams and end up with a steaming pile of R on the highway in the middle of nowhere lol.....

                              Victorian options?

Given that my VW (the one I want to remap, anyway) doesn't have BlueFin available for it, what are my remap options since there are no Superchip dealers in Vic and APR don't remap diesels?

Sorry if there is info on this somewhere here and my search abilities haven't been up to the task...
