SuperChips ECU tune/reflash

hi all. i've been researching alot about different ecu reflashes. only thing that really pops up is APR. i've been very interested in Superchips as it had a very competitive price and also the claimed performance increase was amazing. decided to finally MAN up and go with superchips. just got the car back today, and figured i should share my experience. btw i have a 06 Polo GTi stock as a rock. anyway I DO NOT REGRET this one bit. got the car back and it was INSANE. felt like a totally different car. 1st all the way through to 3rd gear pulls soo much harder. the torque... CRAZY!!!!!. and now i can really hear the turbo spool so much louder. will do a performance/dyno run very soon to see how well it really iss!!!!! few mates are also very very impressed with how my car is running now, and they are very surprised at the fact that its completely stock. i figured i'd put this experience out as i myself have found it annoying to find none to very little information about the Superchips ecu tune. probably cus of the fact that is relatively new to Aus. but hey next time you decide to do an ECU reflash. count the Superchips in. its amazing. both in performance and cost. hope this helps some of you guys considering it. cheers

Superchips? the same as bluefin?? don't they send it to you?

IF NOT the same... what is the website? location?? price? etc.

As i'm looking at upgrading as well... but looking to take advantage of apr sale... but your experiences sounded good.

superchips is the company that does the tune, bluefin is the hand held unit that you can have your maps on, and switch between.

i believe it's pretty similar to my chippeduk handset [chippeduk, viezu, giac, revo technik, etc etc are other companies that do the switchable handset thingy]:

1. you purchase the handset, they send it out in a pretty little box with all the cables.
2. you take the handset, and using the provided cables, you download your stock map from the obd2 port, onto the handset.
3. take your handset to your computer, upload your map to your desktop [mine was only 53kb in size, if i recall correctly], and email it as an attachment, to your tuner, with your nomination for additional maps [you'll have your stock map, plus you'll be able to choose from maps like power map, economy map, track/ race map, etc]
4. they email you back in a couple of hours [if they're not busy, it might only take half an hour] with your new map[s] as attachments.
5. with the handset plugged into your computer's usb port, you copy/ drag and drop the files, onto your handset.
6. you go out to your car, plug the handset into your obd2 port, load whichever map you select to load.
7. you take it for a drive, and run the risk of having your partner break up with you because they're wondering why you've been gone for 3 hours, and you've come back home with a HUGE friggin smile on your face.

try http://www.superchips.com.au/, this should help. there should be a tuner in your area that will be able to do it. try "locate dealer" on the site. as for me i had my mechanic who was also a superchips tuner do it all. all i had to do was drop the car off and pick it up the following day

yeah cool, it is the same thing as what i was thinking.

But there are so many tuners out there, still struggling to pick one, but i have to make a decision soon anyway... as the apr sale is until the end of the month... i won't go to apr if i don't get it before then lol

The tool on that site to see the potential gain for your specific model of car is pretty cool. Only 12hp gain on the V5 though, on the 1.8T Polo (GTI I assume?) it is a 37hp gain!!

The numbers are not as impressive as other big tuners... but i'm wondering if they have more realistic numbers? and other tuners exaggerating their numbers? or They just don't go ask far as the others... eg. Superchips Torque NM gain = 82 and APR NM gain = 135... Superchips HP gain = 61 and APR HP gain = 81 (this is for pirelli btw)... so basing on those numbers there is a big difference.

The other difference is changing modes via cruise control stick and a little machine... plus apr you can have other features such as anti-theft and lockout etc. but at an extra cost... not sure if blue fin has other options like that.

Not sure about golfs but at the dyno day a couple months back all of the chip only polos were getting around 150 HP at the wheels (except mine which pulled 140). This was a mix of APR, GIAC and superchip tunes, so I think they're all about as aggressive/ limited as each other. Jmac might be able to point you to some dyno info for a 'relli.

Ok just to clarify, the Bluefin can only be used on a select set of vehicle and also to clarify the Bluefin is exclusive to Superchips, dub wise they can be used on Mk5, Mk6 ( if not encrypted)Audi B7, some Q5. Other vehicles like Mini, some Beemers and the likes. Ill try and post up the Bluefin list so its clear but check out www.mybluefin.com.au and the list is there. Unfortunatley the Polo Gti cant use Bluefin.

I apparently have a superchips chip in my bora, hard to say if its any good since it was on there when I bought it, and havent been on the dyno!

It would be a flash mate as an 02 Bora doesnt need a physical chip change. Have it dynoed to see what you got.

+1 for the bluefin reflash! More than happy with the drive ability and the extra torque. Pulls like a wounded bull.
But confused as to why you didn't install it yourself??

I've been mulling over this one for awhile... decided to wait till my tax return...
Now that its sorted, I will be getting my Polo GTI Superchipped in a couple of weeks.
I've done some very light mods, so hopefully they'll compliment the ECU flash well.

Are you sure that was right? They put out about 95kw stock, mine ran 137ish kw, puts it at about 180HP atw...

I'd be going GIAC, but I don't know much about the Bluefin systems, seem to get a lot more interest here than they used to.

If Jmac supports / supplies, cant be bad...
