Door change
As promised... The only issue I had was getting the doorlock/central locking rods off the little plastic clip when removing the latch from the door.
I tried to pull the whole latch mech and white plactic clip, with the rods attached, thru the small gap in the door and busted the two brittle tabs
AFTER i'd got it all out, it was only then of course that i realised the clip just slides off!
Luckily I had a spare from the grey beast this thread was started for!!
I wont bother posting pics of the finished product as y'all know what a mk2 normally looks like!-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

Yea the door looks identical in colour it just needs a clay bar and polish.
The little plugs in the door that hold the clips of the mk2 door trims were mostly perished, so i pinched some of the pretty green ones from a golf 3 and they worked fine.
When i clean up the car I'll put up some before and after shots.-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

Quick repairs
Heya. Just a quick post in case some of you find this useful.
Changed the broken front left door handle today including the lock swap.
Here's the busted bit above my thumb:
Dont try and push the little lock buttons in and slide the barrel in with a screwdriver like this! It will result in explosive swearing attacks, and possible tool/lock breakage:
Just put the key in to pull the tabs down..
..and hey presto:
Now my girlfriend can let herself in and I can give the gentlemanly game a rest-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

quick update
Ok so finally got some time to partially put the AMK back together.
New sump, oil filter bracket/cooler/filter, new oil pump etc.
Also got my G60 mounts from GSF in the mail. Just waiting for correct brackets. Realised I cant use 020 brackets on the 02A because it makes the whole engine/gearbox sit 15mm forward than normalSo I need the brackets from a 4cyl Corrado or Passat from '89 - '92.
Anyway the mounts are here...
And also attacked the charge pipe with the wire wheel tonight after a trying day. hadda get outta the house... Will paint it too
More to come soon...-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

When I did my 02A swap, I needed a the front engine mount bracket too! The 020 one I was using snapped...ooops!
So, I went down to the local VW dealer and ordered a mk3 tdi manual 02A engine mount bracket. It didn't take long to come in, and it might be easier to source than a corrado or passat one... (even though they're the same, people in this country will know what you're on about)

There is a guy in Canberra who just wrecked a 9a passat to put the engine in his Mk1. He would probably have the mounts you need.sigpic Camden GTI Performance. VW / AUDI Specialists
