It Begins: The S3 1.8T into my '85 Mk2 GTI

Put in some solid time yesterday.

As a result i didn't spend too much time taking photos, but here's a few.

All the doors are glassed and rubbered. Got some nice clean glass and some of the rubbers are brand new.

The black GTI hatch decal didn't really fit well so i had to slice it so it would fold down. It was a biatch to get straight.
The window seal covers up the cuts.









Then came the wiring. I hated the old harness tubing. It was hard and dirty and clumsy. So i got into sorting it out, cutting it off and bought some corrugated tubing.

It looked great all done but i forgot to take a photo. Will do later.

nah nothing really. Just the gaskets, new intake trunk, drive belt tensioner and wiring at this stage.

It's coming together.
Things will be a little slow as my accident has slowed me down (i smashed my jaw cycling to work after hitting a truck) and i have my teeth wired shut for 6 weeks.

But the wiring is pretty tidy and i got some heat shield on there. Car starts and idles now but the tacho is jumping all over the place for some reason.

CV joints and exhaust back on and it's pretty much ready to drive home!

I must admit i chucked a bit when i read that "at least the wiring was pretty tidy and you have some heat-shielding on" as i thought you were talking about your teeth for a minute.

The car is really starting to come together well, the off-aligned intercooler is due to piping requirements i assume?

Nah it's actually just the way it sits. All mk2's have angled radiators, so i put the intercooler as close as i could.

You really have to stop trying to take on trucks with your jaw. You don't know how much damage you can do to the truck.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Hope all is better and you've got some manly scars to impress the chicks.

Even without any of the GTI trim it looks really good. Ever thought of running it without any side trim?
