I look forward to hear how it goes. It sounds very labour intensive. Share photos for us of the water beading when you can. Enjoy!

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Also, Duco Scratch is just a company, not a product, so can you please let us know which product and version that you acquired! There are several threads where people have discussed these products (well... mainly the owner of DS hinting about them being better than anything else), so interest from several people is high.

I was going to take some photos when I got home from work but as soon as I turned up my wife stole the carshe never used to drive my old car. In any case it is a pretty dull and gloomy day out this afternoon so any photos wouldn't have done justice anyway. Hopefully I can get get some wet and dry photos this weekend.
ps I remember someone asking why Merrick charges more for longer lasting protection, it is all to do with the number of coats of different stuff that goes on ie for 5 years there are 5 different bottles of stuff that go on, for 3 years there is only 4 I think.Sword Dude

Looking after the Car
Best paint care system I know of is Gtechniq C1 followed by Permanon top up's every 2nd wash. Permanon is cheap, fast and easy to use. Absolutely saves time and money, I will never go back to breaking my back with waxes or polishes. And for $220.00 you can by 1 litre of super concentrate permanon that can be diluted to 10 or 15 litres, and last you for over 6 months. So much cheaper than taking it to the car wash!!! And it protect as well

there are plenty of products which are half the price, and 15 litres would last for like 75+ years.
if you're talking about a lubrous, low-water use car wash concentrate, there are other products for $30 that can be diluted to make 210L of wash liquid....
just saying...

My own two cents - I will trust the advice from car care products. They are the ones who invest time, effort and money in making this part of the forum a more informative, better place. Whilst I do not wish to form an opinion on the products that others on here are spruiking, given how petty some of the arguments get or how lazy some of the comments are, it leaves me with no incentive to buy any of them, regardless of how great they may be.NickZ

seriously, it's like buying snowboards... there is so much out there, and no, burton DO NOT make the best snowboards - in fact, they're actually pretty sh7t. not being one to flock to brand names, i'd prefer to err on the side of open mindedness, do my research, and often i find myself wanting to be the guinea pig for a certain brand/product, once i've read that people with different applications have liked it on their particular application.
im certainly not against buying something from a company as boutique as duco scratch etc, but FFS dont come onto a forum and start ripping on other companies in the effort to promote your own - that's happened on this forum before (in another context), and whilst it might have resulted in a few more customers, it's also resulted in A LOT of potential customers looking elsewhere because they didnt like company A's tactics.
i'll try other detailing stuff for sure - god knows i've had to leave all my leftover mothers / turtlewax / autoglym / eagle one products at the local carwash under a piece of paper saying "free to a good home" because i've finally got products that im 100% satisfied with.
if you (any company) can show me a way to spend <$100 on a similar product to what i've got, with PROVEN (videos posted on youtube, documented on other forums, not just wild claims on your own site) results, then i'll give yours a bash. but the best way to get me not to give you a shoe in whatsoever, is to tell me that i need to give you $250 for a product that you cant prove is superior to my optiseal, whilst at the same time slagging off my optiseal which i happen to know works pretty fcking well for my needs.

p.s. that's awesome - detailing products for building exteriors - who'da thunk?

Yeah - I understand. I was just letting people know so they understand your position and take your advice for what it's worth.... that of a person who sells the product.
For what it's worth, I've been using GTechniq (C1, C5, I1) and Permanon for a year now...

Hi All,
I am getting a brand new black Tiguan. I have read replies from CCP saying clay and seal indoor. Poor me - I dont have a garage/car port. Would you clay and sealant a new black car outdoor? Any suggestions please.

My Jetta is 2 weeks old and I'm getting it Opti-Coated by Dave in Parramatta this week. He recommended decontaminating the paint for an extra $150 to make sure fine contaminants don't get stuck in the coat. Did anyone else take this option?
