Protecting New Paint

i have to dissagree too as with all my cars (newer ones) ive got paint protection its amazing the difference it makes, easy as to clean as been mentioned also they seem to stay cleaner for longer. ive always had people comment on how clean & shiny my cars are always.... but to be honest im a wash every six month man but the paint protection always seems to work. ill get it done on me dub one day.

There is middle ground that will work just fine

A simple spray wax such as Optimum Car Wax or a carnauba paste wax after a wash will give a very good sacrificial layer and in many cases give a better look than a long term synthetic sealant

Far too much reliance on synthetic sealants if the owner treats it as a one treatment wonder.

Eventually a car will need to have the paint clayed to remove contaminants even if it has a sealant - that will then require an abrasive polish and reapplication of product of choice.

Then there is the daily challenge of environmental damage and general wear and tear

In some cases, easier to deal with if the surface does not have a sealant

Hey alexkid, still happy with the opti-coat after 4 months?? I'm currently shopping around for paint protection and it seems like opti-coat is quite a good product. Did you get anything else done other than the body? windows? rims?

As much as I would like to give you a set price it depends on a number of things including size of car, whether you want every thing done including windows, inside of your rims, condition of your paintwork ect. If there are imperfections they will need to be dealt with first. Expect to pay more for additional hours as required on prep work. I was lucky and only had light scratching.

Mine cost $1300 for two coats of opti-coat (standard practice), a thorough paint prep including some amount of correction to fix all the dealer scratches, and a lifetime warranty (for new cars - this will cost you $100 or so extra at some other opti-coat dealers). Mario had it in for a few days and would have spent many meticulous hours on the car.

You would need to take your car in for an assessment to get a firm price.

I've had Opti-Coat on my GTI for about 4 months now, and its still great.
I got the wheels and windows done as well.
Always easy to clean, and looks like new when its done.

Bring it down to us for the Professional Nanolex Coating, we have done 3 R's and 4 Gti's in the last 4 weeks - we are VW specialists! At $400 for the paint (if brand new and no correction) you can afford to have your wheels and glass done too. And guaranteed this German Technology will look great after a couple of years.

There are easy to apply DIY paint protection products (wipe on wipe off) on the market for about $150. Save $$$ and you will get much better products.

I highly recommend the nanolex. Very cheap if you apply it yourself.

I used the nanolex and wash with the reactivating shampoo, the latter of which is really good as well. Lovely faint banana/tropical scent. I've found that the technique with the shampoo is to rinse off in sheets in one go from top to bottom, so the rinse aid helps in drying the car.

It's easy to apply by hand and using the thinnest of coats oncool paint with a cotton pad (e.g. makeup pad) and then having a second person assist in buffing off.

Now a question: Is the nano technology / nanolex safe? As in, although it's done in an open area - I'm just a little hesitant the fumes from nano technology whether it causes any potential health hazard.

If you are looking for us to apply the Professional Sealant then it should take 4-6 hours (so allow a full day) as long as the paint is perfect from the dealer.

Like a couple of the guys have mentioned you can apply the Nanolex Premium Sealant yourself, see here: Car Care Products / Nanolex / Exterior / Paint Sealant / Premium Paint Sealant Kit just make sure you have a dry undercover area. The Premium is not as long lasting at the Professional but you can still see over 12 months from a coating, more if you look after it correctly!

Today I applied the DIY paint protection from Duco Scratch, I must say I am quite impressed with the results at the end of the day.

I had been tossing up between Nanolex, Opticoat and Duco Scratch for a while but decided to give this product a try after a bit of research. At the end of the day if it doesn't last as long as quoted then I am not too far out of pocket.

My thoughts on this product are:

It is quite time consuming to apply, there are a lot of steps. (wash, apply 1st coat, rinse, dry, apply second coat, rinse, clay bar, rinse, dry, apply sealant, buff, apply top coat, buff)

While it is time consuming, it does not take a lot of effort to actually apply and buff, I did it all by hand with the cloths provided and didn't find it too strenuous.

The product can be applied to any hard surface so no need to tape up windows etc and because you do it by hand without much pressure it is easy to avoid soft rubbers around windows etc.

Because I have a Polo I have quite a lot of the product left, probably enough to do another Polo at least.

The final finish is very glossy and silky smooth to touch.

As it was only done today I have no idea how water beads or sheets on it but the result at the end of the day is simply outstanding.
