My Superb is currently running 235/40R19 tyres. I've seen some discussion about some people moving up in width, to something like a 245/40R19 instead. Is that a doable thing? The price for the tyres seems a lot better(and the range is bigger too) for the 245's. What are peoples thoughts?

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Find out the width of the rim and put it in here:
403 Forbidden
This does not account for scraping the fenders etc. ie in stock or lowered form, but more so what is physically possible to go on the rim.
Speedo will also read different but you probably already know this.RS

Also, if you ask a tyre shop what you can/should/are allowed to get, you will possibly get different answers.
I was after 225 tyres and one Bob Jane said, "we have 235s and they will be fine and cheaper" whereas another said, "I would not suggest putting 235 and stick to 225 OEM tyres".

Depending on which state , according to RMS in NSW state (http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/...si-09-rev4.pdf)
The wheel and tyre must be contained within the body work or mudguards (including any flares) when the
wheels are in the straight ahead position.
If the wheels are listed on your car’s tyre placard or in the owners handbook then the tyres you fit must be those
listed on the placard or in the handbook for these wheels.

Check out Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit
It compares existing set up and the new set up with diagrams and "out readings" pretty cool sight
Note there is a common miss conception around the "profile" measurement the /40 in the 235/40R19 is not the height in mm its a percentage. And this is what affects your rolling diameter.
In saying all that your engine an transmission is designed with the specified size. Changing that would not only affect the speedo reading but your gearing ratios efficiencies all sorts of things. Small changes will have minimal impact though.EUROTRASH

I wanted to go from 225/40/18 to 225/45/18 on my Octavia, but BobJane said no deal.
I wanted to increase the tyre wall thickness for a softer quieter ride.MY17 Superb 162TSI, Business Grey, Tech+Comfort Pack, APR ECU+TCU Stg 1, SLA, Rieger Splitter + Side Skirts, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Hardrace Swaybar, TPMS

Probably a much bigger change in rolling diameter when changing the aspect ratio.RS

So it appears that the VW Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition runs a 19x8 (Albertville) with 245/40R19 94W tyres.
I think there would be no issue with a change from 235 up to 245 still on the 8" rim.
Maybe VCDS can code for the different tyre size to cancel out any speedo error?MY18 VW Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition + Panoramic Sunroof + some extra goodies... (Pure White)

I just changed from 225/45x17 to 225/50x17 (Michelin Pilot Sport 4) to achieve more comfort through better cushioning. My Elegance 125Tdi wagon feels much better in ride and general insulation from the road. The vehicle also looks a lot better in my opinion. The wheels rotate 17 times fewer per kilometre than before according to a specialised online calculator(tyresizecalculator.com/charts/tire-size-chart-metric-by-rim-wheel-diameter). Not sure what that means in economy or performance; A member of the Briskoda website says that that change makes the speedo about spot on, instead of 5kph fast.Last edited by jackpos; 28-03-2019, 08:49 PM.

So a little further digging revels the Passat (like my previous B8 had) comes with a full size spare, so no real issues there.
I would be interested to hear from other ŠKODA Superb owners with 19" wheels what their space saver tyre is?
Mine is a Continental T125/70R18 99M CST 17.
I too am / was considering the change to a 245/40R19 tyre as replacement, however one piece of advice I received from a Tyre Retailer was to check the spare and compare the dimensions (rolling circumference), as they seem to think that they should all be the same as any difference could throw out the car (drivetrain / Haldex) if driven for any extended amount of time. For example if faced with a puncture and then rolling on the space saver for another couple of hundred kms...
As the rolling circumference of the Continental T125/70R18 99M CST 17 is 78.2inch; 125/70R18 Tires
Which doesn't even match the OEM 235/40R19 tyres rolling circumference of 82.9inch; 235/40R19 Tires
So my question is, are the supplied space savers all 18" or should they also be 19"?
As now the theory of the Tyre Retailer most likely has no relevance based on the OEM items as described above.
Yes the 245's are cheaper and have an increased availability / variety of patterns, but I am wondering if it is the right choice?
What I do know is that the Pirelli Cinturato P7 tyres need to go!!!MY18 VW Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg Edition + Panoramic Sunroof + some extra goodies... (Pure White)
