Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Ordered a JB4 for it, so should be good.

Anyone know a good dyno place? Brisbane North side??
Going to give East Coast Customs a go, their Dyno rate seems fair ($195 per hour)

New Air Filter from Canberra VW Centre turned up
Hope I get similar results as Ferret VRS

Did you order the JB4 direct from Burger Motorsports or from Autoinstruct? How much was it?

        I ordered via Autoinstruct.
I started a group but, so I got a better price, But I had to order 6 units.
The Pricing on the Autoinstruct website is still very good. Get in fast as there is/was a sale on.
The reviews I've read say its the best thing you can do for easy performance.

Yeah, I saw you were organising a group buy but wasn't sure if it went ahead or not.

I've read lots about the JB4 on golfmk7.com but having a manual RS I'm concerned about my clutch. My wife is still pissed off about needing to replace the clutch on our last car so I'm not prepared to risk it yet on the new one. Perhaps when I've put aside enough money to pay for a TTRS clutch assembly (much higher torque rating) and the labour to install it...

Yea I'm hearing ya on the clutch, RS230 is manual only, so will only be 'tuned' when needed. It's a daily driver car so no need to stuff clutch going to work.

Is that the thing do to do is it? TTRS clutch? That would definitely help!

I believe so, at least from reading golfmk7.com forums. Basically, you can put together a collection of OEM parts that include parts from the TTRS clutch. This is an alternative to getting an uprated after-market clutch, and they believe that some of those kits are doing the same thing (OEM parts slightly modified). One such highly rated clutch is the RSR Clutch from HS Tuning:

Here's the thread on building your own "TTRS" clutch:

There's also the Sach's clutch that reviews well, note that we get 19% off too being outside the EU:

Do you have any photo of the underside of your car? I'd love to see the difference in exhaust setup to standard so I can try to emulate in the aftermarket. The APR drop in 'turbo muffler delete' seems to be a lot off effort for little gain in value or exhaust note improvement. I'm looking for a little more noise without being rude. I think the RS230 achieves this but i'm not sure exactly how.

From the other forum, RS230 has a smaller diameter cylindrical mid muffler as opposed to the prism like mid muffler on the RS220, length wise is the same I believe.

I don't believe the turbo muffler delete does anything in regards to the muffler note, its more for the noise of the turbo itself. I might be wrong here.

If you want improvement on the exhaust note, changing mid muffler is the easiest and cheapest way, I did and is very happy with the result. Find one that is steel packed and the longest you can fit there (OEM is 24 inch long). Newer RS has a band clamp around the mid muffler instead of one solid pipe, which makes things a bit simpler.

You might want to use a selfie stick or jack one side up to take a photo, it's very tight down there.

Thanks for posting that link, had a read through it all. Looks like the rear silencers have different part numbers also. It would be a big job to swap is all over to RS230 parts. Might try and have a look under mine to see there there is a slip join with a band clamp as per 99Reza's suggestion either end of the centre muffler. Id like to make is as easy as possible to put back to stock if it doesn't work out.

So you're not happy with using the supplied PosiTap connection? Has anyone else come up with a workaround or are you the pioneer?
