New Nav map available in Skoda update portal

I've been chasing map updates for 18 mths (MY15 Skoda Octavia Elegance Wagon) on a monthly basis, always being told that it's nearly ready etc etc. The car came with 14ROW

Finally today, my dealer had the car for 6 hrs and 16/17ROW has successfully loaded. Now it will be interesting to see if I can update them via the Portal in June 2017.

Like many MY15 owners on this thread, I was soooo frustrated with Skoda HO giving me the run around since Jun15 but wasn't going to let it go.

FYI, the new maps show ROW2016/2017. ... I notice on this thread that the MY16 are prefixed with MRM.

The dealer did a software update along with the maps. Was concerned I may lose Traffic Updates which I had done independently, but these are fine.

Thanks... mines in for service next week and I specifically asked (again) about the map update. They seemed to have some idea but said they weren't sure if they'd be able to do it because of problems with the size of the download.

Do you know exactly what the process they have to use is? There was mention here just recently of the update being "shipped out" or words to that effect. So I assume it's not a download from the net they're talking about.. maybe the actual time to copy it to the vehicle?

It would be great to find out from a dealer like yours that has actually done it (on a MY15) what the difficulties are (if any).

MRM 2017 as the latest maps on the download portal. They have been up on the portal since late November 2016.

I understand there firstly was a software update where they had to link to the techo's at Skoda HO because the previous attempt at updating my maps (3wks ago) was unsuccessful. When this HO software update was completed, I believe the new map software was downloaded via an SD card they had in their possession.

Car dropped off at 0900; picked up at 1530.

I think it's taken so long to sort out MY15 issues, they've probably used the Jun16 version as a base. ROW16/17 is a lot better than ROW14!

I've just put my VIN in the update portal & it tells me that MRM2017 is ready for download. Will give it a bash tonight! ROW 14 no longer shows!!!

Can you please check in the menus what the version numbers are for the system (not the maps)?

Do you mean the Nav Database? If so, V03959802QN0058. The only other #'s I can find is the Device Part #, hardware $ software codes ... but I would assume that's for the Columbus system

Yes, the hardware and software versions of the Columbus unit. I think the latest software version for your unit is 490 according to UK forums. The MY16 cars (like mine) have a different number series (mine is 0318 from memory but more recent cars have 0702). I'm just trying to piece together what Skoda/VW are up to, for my own interest.

My MY15.5 (which hasn't been updated) has SW version 0371 too so looks like the SW version in yours wasn't updated (or at least, not to anything all that new).

Guess they must have done something as new map was there & update portal shows MRM2017 ready for download. Currently downloading it and will whack it in the car tomorrow.

I bet you're happy about that! Just remember that the download is large and the servers are pretty flaky - the downloader program for Windows is pretty good but I've still seen it fail once of twice.

Logically, for the portal to now show files for your VIN the dealer must have a facility to update records of your car that the portal looks at. Just updating the software/firmware wouldn't do it.
