Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • just to confirm, i've downloaded HIGH12_P90_MRM_202045.zip - i now extract the 2 folders and text file directly to a fresh SD card? and this will work for the my15.5 skoda octavia vrs with Columbus system? (i only just got the car but the current version looks like its the 2015 version that came with it..).

does it need to be a specific type of SD? will a microSD plugged into a normal SD sized adapter work(this is how i used to listen to music in my old golf)?

Did you go through the vehicle and MMI selection and come to that map

If so yes but Im slightly confused by your terminology.

      1 download map to HDD
2 put SD card into computer
3 EXTRACT the zip file you list above direct to the SD card

You end up with 2 folders Mib1 and Mib 2 and a text file

4 Put SD card in car go down to system information/update and wait.
4A Sometimes it will find the map without the above step.
5 45mins later it should be done. You can turn ign off and next time you turn it on update will resume.
Yes I often use micro SD cards and a good adapter 32gb formatted in Fat32 is enough as map file is 29.6 GB unzipped
To enter music onto HDD you can only enter 1000 tracks at one time, but can use another card and put another 1000 on if they will fit in space

      • I looked through this thread and downloaded from the link from Flipper. When i put my vin into the skoda portal it says there's no updates for it then shows a list of countries and theres no Australia or 'ROW' option. I went to the vw site and theres no skoda options there. Im away from my car till Tuesday so i cant test the version i got till then.

Wont be options for a SKoda on a VW site would there. However the maps are identical. they just have different file names.

What MMI do you have in the Skoda??? when you go to the site after it shows the car model it gives a choice of head units. What is the name of yours???

no luck so far. i just bought this sdcard and formatted it to exFAT as FAT32 wasnt an option on my pc. it errored a few times and said it couldnt format. i plugged it into my work laptop (without a SD->USB adapter and was able to format it successfully. now im getting this error when i try to copy the files onto it from the pc to the SD card.

this is what comes up when i hit the nav now.

this is what came up after trying to update (with new sd card as the previous one didnt work so i took it back.)

              • Ok a 32gb card does it and you cant skip any files So you download this file High12_P90_MRM_202045.zip to your hard drive

You put a formatted 32gb Sd card into your computer

You UNZIP the above file DIRECT to your SD card and when its done you should have ONLY these folders and one file on the card

                Mib1

                Mib2 Both are FOLDERS

metainfo2.txt is obviously a text FILE

Must be in root directory NOT in a folder

Works for everyone else Eventually LOL

Alternative method but much slower is to unzip to a folder on the HDD and then copy the above 3 from it to the SD card. Takes forever though. It wont find them if they are in another folder as only looks at the root of the card.

I have used USB sticks with other stuff on them but as long as those three are on there and visible when you put it in car unit will find them

                    • i formatted my 64gb usb3 stick to exFAT (windows10) 'default allocation size' (my pc doesnt give me the option for FAT32) and copied the contents of the zip directly to the usb drive overnight. i tried it this morning and i still get the same error. im now reformatting and redownloading the zip.

EXFat is ok and Windoze CANT format anything bigger than 32gb in Fat32 you need a program like guiformat-x64.exe to do that

Sounds like you have a corrupted download

interestingly each time ive put the sd or usb into the car, it has a little popup that displays 'software download' as if it's recognised it's an update.. anyways, i'll report back later today once it's downloaded and i've tried it again, else, look for me on the news!

                          • I'll go out on a limb a little here and wonder if the issue is the SD card itself. Most people use 32gb ones, class 10, SDHC - it may just be that your card is too big and new to be handled by the system. And I think XC needs to be formatted in a slightly different way which would cause the SD card reader in the car to have issues. I'd suggest you get a SD card that is 32gb, class 10, and try that. My newly purchased 2016 VRS, as I found out, has never been to a Skoda dealer since delivery (not for warranty or servicing or anything). So when I checked it was running the original firmware 0318 and original maps 2016.

With no issue at all, I easily updated it to 2021 maps, then a week or so later when I had time, I updated the firmware from 0318 to 1433, the best available, again using the same card without any issue.

                            I'd suggest trying this.

                            • I just checked, I use a SanDisk Ultra 32Gb, SDHC, class 10 running at 40 MB/s and it works. Maybe try and find one like that on eBay, and do it all again, as I think the size/formatting could be an issue.

                              • And also, you may have to look at updating firmware too, assuming you cannot get the unit back up and running again.
