  • That is pretty much why I sprang the extra despite originally going to take it to someone with a good rep. Hopefully they fix it all without creating more problems with creaks etc. The car is dead silent and I love it like that.

    • OK, got called into the dealer last thing. I discovered that there is an etch/scratch partway down the rear window from where they must have cut out the film on the back of the car. So really happy now. We looked at another Octavia wagon with just the straight privacy glass and it has rubber that curves and moulds into a flat lip onto the rear door Qtr windows. They have completely cut that away and then gouged out about 0.5cm of the rubber moulding in behind it exposing the glass to tuck the film in so there isn't a gap. Ie that flat bit matches the rubber on the outside so they cut it back so they can hide the edge. Problem is, although the flat bit is stuck to the glass, I can get my fingernail underneath it and imagine a plastic tool could have pried it back a bit rather than just gouge it all away and then some. Has anyone who had film put on the back had a look at the rear door quarter windows? Our 2008 Octy has just left earlier this week and gone to Bundy so I can't even check and see what they did on it. No doubt the mouldings were completely different. Its only clear UV film from the drivers pillar back as they are already privacy glass. If I was given a choice I would have just gone film on the fronts and not worried about the back if it meant cutting. But I'm not convinced at all that they need to cut and think they were being very lazy.

        • The tinter knew straight away what my complaint would be when the sales guy rang him, seems they have been doing it a while. In my case I noticed as strips of rubber were hanging down and blowing around. Then to my horror I noticed the rest....The nice scratch from the knife in the rear glass was this afternoons discovery in the sun.

          • Well done on taking it back to them to ensure they fix it... You don't complain, they keep doing it because they keep getting away with it.

            • Jebus that sucks. You'd think the dealers would use the best guys they can find as *they* are the ones that have to deal with the blowback.

              • They sell Maserati, lambos and Ferrari all in the same site. I bet none of them knew this guy did this. Also bet the don't use him for the Audis either. The fact no one there knew he cuts them up everytime is dodgy in the first place. I'm curious to look at my my 2 tinting in that area now but my mum drive it up to QLD this week. I'm still wondering how on earth they are going to fix the nice cutting marks in the rear glass?

If anyone can take a look at their mk3 small windows in the rear doors and see how they were don't that would help a lot. I'm pretty sure I can think of at least one solution.

Sounds like a lot of work to be lazy.

More likely they just haven't a clue and are a pack of bodge artists

                  • I'm getting that strong feeling, especially with the nice scratches from them cutting out the tint on the glass itself. Ironically I have spent 12mths researching a list of tinters who I planned to use, and at the last minute a few weeks back stupidly decided it would be less hassle to get the dealer to do it seeing as they have tinted so many before.

                    • Well, my rs still has issues. Cruise still cuts out intermittently, so does my left dipped beam. And now, my PDC doesn't work. I get an exclamation mark on the front beams and a flashing PDC button

Also on part throttle downhill, it has a hesitation in 3rd. Eg, slow down for a left into a street that points downhill, car shifts to 2nd around the corner, then when you accelerate again, it will hesitate then accelerate in 3rd. It doesn't do this on the flat at the same speed, so I'm hopefully going to rule out turbo lag. It's a 135 tdi.
I'll need to call them and drop it off on a Saturday. Ugh. Starting to get more issues now.

                      • Hi Woofy,

I checked mine when I washed it over the weekend, it has privacy and tint and they didn't cut any of the flat rubber away on the rear quarter windows at all. That seems really bad to me!

I hope you get it sorted.

                        Cheers,
                        Karl

                        • I noticed the coolant level on the car has been dropping slowly for the past few months, topped it once and was still dropping.

Booked the car at the dealership to have a look. They found a leak at the thermostat housing(?) which also caused the engine fan to remain idle when it supposed to cool it down. Replaced and the fan is supposedly cutting in ok now. They also mentioned that there is a recall in regards to a part related to the water pump, couldn't remember the exact part correctly but worth checking out given the reliability history of VWAG water pump, they rectified this for my car as well.

I'm not entirely sure if this issue was related, I was experiencing warbling/knocking sound from the engine, very similar to a worn engine mount symptoms albeit with a lot less intensity. After they fixed the coolant issue, the noise is no more.

                            • No but my drivers side wiper is jumping and screeching since I picked the car up a few weeks ago. The car has been washed since and our other Skoda never had this issue so gonna guess the wiper blade is defective in some way. It looks normal when I've looked at is, but is wiggling and screeching all over the place even when lots of rain today.

If you've only JUST turn the wipers off, they will stay in the "ready to go" position. But once you haven't used them for a while (forgotten the time frame) or turn the car off, they will go back into the parked position. Pretty sure it's in the manual.
