Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK3 Octavia - List of Defects, Faults and Issues

    Hi people,

Thought we can start a thread where people can list the defects, issues and problems they had (or have) with their MK3 Octavia's and what was done to resolve the issue. Please also list whether the dealer rectified the problem or if it was anything you did. Also please list the experience with the dealership in trying to rectify the problem.

    I'll start off.

Other than the dealer inflicted swirls and holograms on my vRS, there has been nothing major.

From day one, the sound generator caused the interior rear view mirror to rattle (very annoying) when accelerating up. Reported and booked a time with the dealer to get the problem resolved. But a week before the scheduled check up, the problem disappeared

The cover over the centre speaker on the dash seems to have come loose now, and every time I am listening to talk back radio it generates a high pitch squeak. Getting it sealed properly by the dealer later in the month.

If the boot is opened remotely (Combi version) I've had the motors in the boot struts not work/perform smoothly... as if there wasn't enough battery or power to the struts.... I think it has something to do with opening the boot first and the car not knowing the key is near but if you opened the doors first then remote boot open the car would realise

This sounds like part of your dead battery problem, does it still happen. If so, you have something up with your KESSY in general.

Manual Gearbox 5th gear difficult to select at times. Still doing the adjust/Is it OK, merry go round. Will update as we go. Suspect selector but adjustment has only improved it marginally.

Canton sound system is rubbish when playing AM radio. Reverberates through centre dash front speaker Any suggestions?

Sometimes I accidentally put my radio in AM, not on purpose though.

AM radio = ABC, Radio National, lots of sport and a lot of intellectual programs. Might be too much for some.

Can you see what happens when you turn down the bass - wonder if the bass settings will be radio function or AM/FM specific ?

In my ST, CD, bluetooth, radio, USB all have their own individual equalizer settings.

That's interesting. I didn't realise you could individually tune each sound input. When you say your ST, what is an ST?

In Tuan's signature you can see he has got a Ford Focus ST

Yes, sorry Focus ST .. not many of these on the road and yes, I found it pretty good that individual inputs had separate settings ...

If you mostly listed to AM and don't switch to FM often, reducing the bass levels may work anyways ..

Ah OK. I use the Tapatalk app and mainly access this forum on the iPad or iPhone and signatures do not show. But surely a Ford Focus has a completely different set up to a Skoda Octavia? Does the ST have a Canton system fitted? Turning down the bass I will try...
