Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I don't know. The R is AWD, the RS is FWD and there are some differences in the back end mechanicals. You'd have to ask the spring manufacturers if there's much of a difference in the spring perches. Probably the easiest way is to look at the partnos offered by the coilover suppliers to see if they are the same

Keep in mind the R is a lot lighter in the tail than an RS so you will get some lows - esp with a load on board. Maybe wait for the R-wagon and use springs off that?

These are the ones you want and fully compatible with the RS. Different springs for R and GTI. Best get in contact you find which are more suited to the RS Sport Springs (ACC compatible) - Volkswagen Racing

As Brad alluded to above, isn't the RS (particularly the Wagon/Combi) heavier than the Golf, thus are those springs you've said above 100% compatible with the RS?

It states in the compatibility list the springs are compatible with the Octavia RS. Which set it doesn't say. Best ask the manufacturer.

          • Mechanically they'd fit but I reckon it would have a droopy bum as the VWR partno is the same for all MQB platform vehicles.

If you look at the Eibach cattledog the R has a partno is
            E10-85-041-01-22 (black spring pro-kit) with a 10-15mm drop front & rear. The axle loads are 1100kg F / 960kg R.

For the RS TSI & TDI wagon AND hatch the partno is
            E10-79-010-02-22 (pro-kit) with a 20mm F / 10mm R drop. Axle loads are 1070 F/ 1075 R.
            or
            E20-15-021-05-22 (red Sportline) with 25-30mm F / 25mm R drop and 1070 F / 1050 R axle loads

If you look in the Eibach catalogue the individual springs have a link to the Allgemeine Betriebsurlaubnis (german certificate of conformance???). It gives the (excuse spelling and the English isn't a translation - just what I know it is) Dractdurchmesser (wire diameter) in mm; the ungespannt federlange (wire length) and the gesamptwindunszahl (number of coils - I assume it's total so subtract 2 for # active coils) & the ausfurungbezeichnung (partno).

You can use this to calculate the spring rates (assuming all the steel has the same heat treatment). (you have to guess at some dimensions but you leave these as constants)

            • This can be resolved if you just get KW coilovers

Not if you get the right ones with a decent spring rate.

                    • Genuine Skoda Octavia Plastic Boot Dish (5E5061162).
Genuine Skoda Octavia Heavy Duty Rubber Floor Mats (5E2061550).

The plastic boot dish fits perfectly in the boot and helps protect against spillages and dirt. It's about 100mm deep.

The heavy duty floor mats also fit perfectly and are a very snug fit. I put them on top of the carpet floor mats for that extra sound deadening.

Mats and boot dish all bought from my Skoda Dealer. They're available from all Skoda Dealers. You can download the accessories brochure from the Skoda.com.au website to see what else is available. Lots there to choose from. =)

I dont have any boot lip protectors at the moment. I am looking at one on ebay for the inside lip protection and have also ordered one from rearguards.co.uk through a group buy on this forum for the rear bumper protector.

Im being very careful taking things out and in at the moment. Especially the double pram that loves to hit/catch on everything.

                              • Have the OEM rear bumper protector & OEM stainless steel door sill guards, one for the inside lip of the boot would be good, pity they do not have an OEM one. The Ebay one's seem to be stick down, bit wary of any that solely relies on glue and is not OEM, the heat here can be merciless on poor quality glue or plastics. That reminds me of my old Ford BA, the console around the gear stick melted on a nice hot day, in Melbourne of all places. It would be interesting to see the durability of the OEM bumper guard vs the rearguards product (looks like it protects more of the bumper).
