  • OK after much searching, it's easier for us to buy the keys ourselves. If there were more in each state, a bulk buy would be better, but we don't have the numbers to really make a saving on the key ends.

I'm going to order mine now!

    • Deleted the resonator (or piped a resonator as the exhaust guy said) on my RS earlier today . Cost was $112 all up with stainless pipe.

From the inside the straight pipe added extra dimension to the exhaust noise, deep tone!
From the outside it's a completely different story, I let my wife drive the car and I was following her from side and behind, it's quite raw. It instantly reminded me of an A45 exhaust (minus the crackling). The revving video I made is also surprisingly similar to videos of A45 revving.

DSG 'fart' is now present during mild to hard acceleration . I personally like it, gives the car more aggressive presence.

Driven sedately, it's hard to tell that the resonator is out and I'm happy to report that there is no droning at highway speed.

There is some odd resonance at approximately 2,500rpm under certain load. It's hard to describe the noise, neither raspy nor boomy but you can definitely hear it. During hard acceleration, this noise is not present at any RPM, perhaps something to do with the velocity of the exhaust gas. I'm still undecided sure whether I like this particular noise or not, more driving is needed.

I've only driven the car short distance after the resonator is out and the exhaust noise has smooth out a bit (or my ear is getting adjusted), including that odd resonance. Will review after few hundred km to see if there's any difference to the tone.

Yes, there's definitely more drama driving the car now and it's a hell lot more fun with it . It does take away some of the refine feeling the stock car gave though.

The video I made is massive at 220mb. Does anyone know best way to upload it? Failing that, I will need to make another recording with a lot lower resolution.

      • Nice to hear the results 99reza. I'm too looking at the resonator delete. How long did it take your exhaust bloke to do it? Regarding the video, Youtube or something similar as i'm keen on hearing it!

That resonator delete, APR intake and a Soundkator dial back might be the go.

Mid car, 60cm long and according to the Briskoda forums, about 10-12kg!

                  • Is it on the Mk 2 also?

Your no resonator almost sounds a little bit raspy?

Yep, there's a huge one under the rear seat.

You really need a bit of mileage before making a decision as they soot-up and change pitch.

                      • As brad said, the 2nd resonator under the rear passenger seat is big - tis sometimes referred to as the 'suitcase '.

The one zee left is the oem catback (muffler + resonator).....

U can see the apr version here, to give u an exact location......

                        • Has anyone replaced the stock resonator with a hotdog? In some vehicles this improves the sound of the exhaust without adding any resonance or drone.

                          Comment

                          • The resonator on the mk3 is huge, longer than 60 cm i say and is quite heavy. They are not round but triangular.

Now, after few days living with it, there wasn't any considerable change in the exhaust note itself. The odd resonance is still there and to be honest I'm not liking it, it's borderline raspy. Having said that, as brad said, I'm going to let the pipe soot-up and see how it goes.

The car sounds absolutely marvelous during WOT though. More reason to break the speed limit .

Emmo: I've been thinking of the same thing, perhaps a smaller resonator compare to the OEM one. I have no experience with this, perhaps someone here has done it and able to share their result?

                              • Just a quick update with the resonator delete.

The tone has definitely change, for the better, that odd resonance I was having problem with is almost completely gone, replaced with deep tone. Instead of looking forward to drive the car, I'm now always finding a reason to take car out for a spin

I will report back after I have emptied two tanks worth of fuel, by then the straight pipe would have hopefully fully soot up.
