Just not keen to fork out 1k for correction and protection when I know there maybe a only few small marks. Might have to call a few others around nsw/Sydney.

Always good to check, but best to run with someone with a good recommendation.

At the end of the day the cost will boil down to their desired profit margin and overheads. For once us Adelaide guys get to save.

$1k seems a lot. Mine was only a bit over half that, paint protection only (no wheels/interior).

The amount of correction required depends how badly the dealership butchers your cars paint in pre-delivery, which is more often than not quite badly. Plus, "new" cars are covered in glaze (think icing a cake for cars) that hides all the damage until you have washed it a few times. So normally some level of correction is required, a good detailer will tailor a package to suit your car.

Unfortunalty, I dont think this detaier will just do 'correct any paint as required'. Its all or nothing.
And yes, we get over chared for everything here in Canberra. Mind you, the quote is for full correction AND protection.

This is why I have asked the dealer that the car to be delivered un-detailed. I guess I will be just dealing with the 'icing' though.

Seems like I am going to have to shop around. Thanks for the advice.

Does the Opticoat Pro have properties similar to Nanolex? ie hydrophobic and anti-static to repel water and dust? Or is it purely another coating that protects your paintwork from scratches/swirls etc?

                Pretty much yes.. quoting:

"Opti-coat is a permanent, hard wearing, ceramic clear coat with superior resistance to scratches, chemical etching (which can be caused by certain cleaners) and harsh environmental elements (bird droppings, acid rain etc). The coating is 2 microns in thickness, which makes it almost 100x thicker than most commercial waxes and sealants This allows Opti-Coat to effectively absorb damage that would otherwise affect the factory paint layers. Swirl marks and light scratches are not only decreased by the harder Optimum Ceramic Coating, the factory paint is protected and preserved. It is a permanent hydrophobic coating that releases water, dirt and grime so your car stays cleaner for longer."

Have dropped my vehicle to be opticoated over the weekend. I am having full opticoat inside and out including glass and wheels inside and out. Also doing a full tint as well. He would have come to me but I don't really have anywhere that I was comfortable to do on site as I live in apartment block.. He said it will take a full day but so he isn't under the pump I told him to keep it for the weekend and he can do it at a more leisurely pace. So far dealing with this fellow has been very good. He explains everything well and seems to have a real passion for what he is doing. I will be putting pictures up probably Monday and give a bit of a report on my thoughts on the product..

Got the car back from the detailer Jason from www.superfreshdetailing.com.au and I LOVE the car. He did a fabulous job and you could tell by his enthusiasm and passion that he was going to do a fabulous job. He also took the time to explain everything. With opticoat the manufacturer gives the warranty which is great because if Jason decides to move on I am still covered. Every year he will do a "service"on the vehicle to maintain the warranty. This service is $99 but this includes a full detail inside and out and any repairs to the coatings if required. He will do this at your place as well. I really couldn't be happier with everything I have had done. Another credit to him is he organised as part of the job to get my tinting done but the person he normally uses went away so he used someone else and he wasn't happy with it. Well to be honest I couldn't see any problem with it but he has told me to look out for a few different things on the tinting and if at anytime in the future I am not happy with it he will have it replaced at no charge. He really is a perfectionist.I will keep people updated periodically. Click image for larger version

If opticoat warrant their coating for life then why do you have to pay a dealer $99 per year to maintain that warranty. Seems a very odd opticoat manufacturer warranty if that's the case.

Just like any Warranty. Does the manufacturer warranty your car if you never service it? No they don't so it is exactly the same thing. A complete detail usually costs me about $99 so it will just be one of my standard 3 or 4 time a year detail I would normally get. But now I have opticoat I will only need the one a year detail.

My point was more that you have to take it back to the same guy and pay him $99 per year to maintain a manufacturers warranty. You can get your car serviced anywhere and your warranty on your car is not void.
