New Octavia ....when? How Much?

$1100 if I remember correctly. List was $1650 at the time. As for the car no issues and all is as I expected based on reviews. Would probably dial down the sound generator if it was easy and a nice exhaust burble would also be good.

I've had the car since Monday arvo.

Car is driving smoothly, much more softer then my Polo GTI, I have been driving it mostly in Eco mode - to tone down the fuel l/per km as I drive around for work.

From the lights, I get up to speed quickly, gears are smooth but not as smooth as I thought they would be. Being a 6-spd it's different to the issued 7-spd I had before.

Steering wise, it's great - I think the turning circle is big but haven't done it properly as I'm being cautious while turning - the sensors work great when parking but still need to find the feel of the corners of the car. I have a great sense of size but as it's a wagon and new car - I have to get use to it.

Stereo and interior is great. I have the Canton but have nothing to compare it to so it's going great. Need some good tunes rather then the radio. Seats are great, as mentioned the glass roof too and then the lights too! Some parts I still need to work out - engine turns off and I am just about out and the MDF screen pops up saying the lights will turn off in 30mins?! Thats weird... I did put the lights on coming home with a 20second delay.... and 10second welcome.

Locking the car with the door handle ship most times works but I think if I am carrying my two cameras on my shoulder - the metal interferes??! Unlocking is great - locking is good too. Never a need to take the key out unless something is not locking.

The warranty is underwritten by Allianz from memory. I got 3 years extra direct with factory terms and conditions for 1500

Glad you are enjoying the new car Matt; try some flac audio files or go old school and use CDs in the DVD player in the glovebox, from what I have read on Briskoda these will provide the best audio reproduction. I also read you have to adjust the audio settings to get the best out of the Canton system, including opening the rear seat portal to increase bass reproduction from the subwoofer. The speakers will improve with use. My home Dynaudio speakers took around 200 hrs to run in. To be honest I don't expect too much from the Canton upgrade but it does sound better than the standard system. I will probably install Dynamat soundproofing to the car to improve noise insulation. It made a big difference to my current cars audio, including reducing reverberation from the door speakers.

Ouch 2 stars? Pretty harsh. What were the issues? Does not seem consistent with any other reviews.

OK I'll bite.
I have never read the magazine but it does not surprise me at all.
Would a magazine with that title rate any diesel? Let's face it the RS TDI is not much faster than a petrol 1.4tsi to 60, but in a high speed dash up the autobahn the petrol would be fuelling up much more frequently.

The main gripes surrounded the DSG, and the fact that it apparently stalled on them many times, including when taking off at a tee intersection. Only flicked through it at a newsagent but that rating drew my eye. They also did state that they like Skoda as part of VAG, and they did like the Octavia, just not the Diesel version of the RS.

I have no idea about the AU version but the UK EVO was a pretty good magazine with honest road tests that rated vehicles against their peers - eg: an Ocatvia RS diesel would be compared to a sporty spec Megane diesel or maybe a GTD & a similar petrol model. They wouldn't compare it to a Ferrari.

I guess if the road test vehicle was stalling a lot then that would be an issue as you would expect vehicles in the road test fleet to be running perfectly.

Agreed there Brad - they seem to be a pretty decent magazine. That being said I don't have a preference for a particular one - I usually flick through them and buy one if it is worthwhile.

You'd expect that out of all vehicles the ones handed over for road testing would be the vehciles that ran perfectly.
