Had a Jetta with 2.0TDI as loaner when mine in for repairs and now seriously considering diesel RS as I couldn't believe how well it went! Serious punch in midrange and apart from some diesel clatter at idle very quiet and smooth - could be seriously quick machine (especially with tune)

Yes the Octavia RS diesel is the only car now being brought into Australia with the 135kW/380Nm engine from the Golf GTD.
So this is definitely the one to get if you're looking at a diesel.
It's good news that no issues are being reported by the Golf GTI guys running the EA888. And it's even better news that VW are continuing with it in other models. Unlike my 3.0 H6 Subaru which repeatedly exploded for me. And never went into another thing.
Had an Octavia Elegance Wagon (Tech Pack, Alaris wheels, power tailgate) 132 TSI for a week now and very, very impressed. We also have a current model 2.0L TSI 147 Highline Jetta in the family (also EA888 ), and if anything the 1.8 in the Skoda is smoother and has more pep than the 2.0 in the Jetta. I can only imagine how good the RS 2.0L unit is. The 7 speed DSG in the Octavia is definitely better than the 6 speed DSG in the Jetta (less laggy, and changes up and down faster in and out of corners).
