Isn't this an interesting list? The launch is definitely near! Drop those vins into VW/Audi/Seat/Å*koda VIN Decoder and you'll find we're getting these models come launch...

Škoda Octavia III Active/Ambition/Elegance 1.4 TSI 103kw (Tonnes of them)
Škoda Octavia III Active/Ambition/Elegance 1.8 TSI 132kw (Very few)
Škoda Octavia III Active/Ambition/Elegance 2.0 TDI 110kw (Quite a few)

I can't seem to find any RS models though

Nice work! Wish I had thought of that.

It would be nice if you could extract transmission config from the VIN. I'd like to know if there are any manuals coming over.

          New Octavia ....when? How Much?

Some of the new Octavias are in the country already and with Skoda head office and journalists. My brother works for Skoda and feeds me the gossip. The new Octavia is due to be officially released late November, with the vRS in about March/April 2014.

He has his product training for the new Octy mid November, so he will get to learn all about them and drive them then.

To go for the fuel economy and torque of the 2.0 TDI or the power delivery of the 1.8......oh the dilemma

My advice would be to choose the right engine based on the type of driving you do.

              - Lots of short trips where the engine doesn't stay at operating temp for long. Lots of stop/start traffic = petrol engine

              - 20,000+ km's per year with lots of longer (freeway or open road) driving where the engine is at operating temp for longer periods of time = diesel engine

Diesels do not like stop/start traffic and short trips. You will use more fuel and have problems down the track with the DPF (diesel particulate filter) which costs about $7k to replace.

I'm leaning towards the 1.8. Doing lots of kilometres at the moment but I expect that the new car will be doing more shorter trips. I expect the 1.8 will be the better option than the 1.4 in a wagon

Sister recently got the 1.8t in the old 1Z shape, it's a great engine very smooth compared to the 1.4 twincharger in the golf/polo.
Worth noting that the 1.8t in the new octavia has the same 0-100 as the 1Z 147tsi vRS (7.3) too.

On the next page of the track and trace you can see a bunch were off the boat as early as the 14th of October.

If you go back a bit further it looks like a 77 TDI was delivered as early as 28/02/2013.

I'd easily say the 1.8TSI, the combined fuel figure is around 6L/100km so it's not like it's exactly heavy on fuel.

Will save me being consigned to a wagon.
Dog lovers rejoice- remove parcel shelf and big dogs accommodated.

REally? I like the look of the hatch but the practicality of the wagon..

How much more practical is the wagon once parcel shelf removed on the hatch?
Surely a tall dog will hit its head on the hatch window?

I have had a series of hatches and currently have a hatch RS and an awd wagon. 99% of the time the extra back qtr a wagon gives never gets used as you can't see. You can load a hatch up and the ledge holds it all in and out of sight.

Being a petrol, it still won't be as good on fuel as the diesel will be.
Diesel is a more dense fuel, for starters.

There's only so much economy you can get with spark plugs.
