Thanks guys. Yeah I try to do as much myself as I can so I can learn. And through the blood, sweat and cursing I have a lot of fun.

Also got rid of this little engine cover bracket to save 330 grams and get a little less cluttered in there.

nice work on tidying things up by removing the brackets. i'm going to do the same and i'm working on a way to remove the left hand one without removing the inlet manifold. i'll give you a heads up if i succeed. keep up the good work and keep the updates coming...

There are people that don't use RainX?

There are good alternatives these days as well.

Brilliant stuff. No wipers needed in light rain at 70kph +. Aids in clearing the windscreen in heavy rain.

Ajax/Bon Ami is a good alternative to steel wool - put on damp, allow to dry then take off with a dry cloth or kitchen towel.

Toothpaste works well too.

Do you have any advice as to how and how much rainx to use? The instructions were vague, but from what I could tell the stuff is super thin.. wasn't sure wether to try and layer it

I'd reckon I use a teaspoon to do the whole car (windoes, exterior mirrors, head, fog & tail lights & most of that soaks into the rag.

Start with a piece of rag about 200mm sq & fold it over to a 100mm pad. Squirt some rainX on the drivers side & buff it in. Squirt less (because your rag has started to load up with the chemical) on the passenger side & buff. Then a bit less on th erear window. At this point the rag will be loaded up & you can finish the rest of the car without extra chemical. You may have to unfold/refold the rag to get at the stuff that has soaked in.

When you've done the whole car you can go around with either a clean cotton or microfibre rag or even paper towel to buff off any excess & remove any swirls on the glass. If you've used too much it will be a bit smeary - especially when you use the wipers. Either rebuff ( a damp kitchen towel is most effective) or live with it a few weeks / rebuff with clean rag.

I bought a whole heap of 2nd hand glass care products off a mate the other day. Rain-X also do a 2in1 cleaner/water repeller to make it a one step process for the lazy buggers like me.

RainX is good but I've found Nanolex to be a better product - works better and lasts for 6+ months

My wife was wrecking wiper blades (due to not lubricating the windscreen with water) and complaining that the windscreen was never clean
I tried 4 products (RainX was the only only one that made a difference) before finding Nanolex
I did not tell the wife I had applied the Nanolex but she noticed the benefit the very next day and was very happy about it
(which is important as she's not very observant when it comes to the car)

As I said, there are some good alternatives out there. It depends what pricepoint you are comfortable with

RainX would be good for about 2 months? - maybe 3 depending how often you use the wipers?, so the TCoO is probably similar to the Nanolex.

After last weeks purchase off my mate I now have enough window stuff to last a few years

I used it not long after I first bought the Octy, and found it messed with the rain drop counter thing's mind for the auto wipers and they became even more erratic than they are normally. Also experienced a fair bit of juddering of the blades with Rain-X on, so removed it.

I didn't get any issues but yes I know how it can want to go faster depending on where the rain hits. I think the little switch with 4 or 5 levels with a volume looking icon controls sensitivity.
