              no thanks.
i do not wish to advertise (from the outside) that my car is modified by having bold shiny letters on the rear screaming apr.

i'm going for stealth as much as possible - hence keeping just the "stage 2+" bits next to the vRS badge.

              • well....after 60,500kms, almost 3 yrs, the time had come to change the tyres.
it came from the factory with the continental contisportcontact2.

                they've been replaced with continental contisportcontact5 @ $235 a corner (fitted & balanced).

here's hoping it performs & lasts just as long as the cs2!!

                • Be interested in your thoughts on the CS5s.
I'm only at 40k so a little ways to go (hopefully) before I have to swap out the shoes.
Am thinking CS5s or Michelin PS3s. I had the PS2s on my A3 and they were in good condition still when I sold the car with 60k on them...

                  • Wow, that's damned good mileage!

I have CS2 on my wagon and looking at them at 31k, I somehow doubt I'll be getting that much out of mine - if I manage 50k out of 'em I'll be happy. I guess Sydney stop-start traffic doesn't help.

Good price on your CS5, where did you get them? I'd be interested in your thoughts on the CS5 too.

Yeah, Canberra roads r much better than sydney - probably why they lasted this long.

I got them from Bob Jane's. unfortunately the called it the "oktavia", and the wheel alignment was done according to a "skoda octavia 4wd"!! they probably don't have the RS alignment values in their database. hope this doesn't cause any issues.

The CS5 is quieter - probably cause its new & I had a wheel alignment done.
Visually, the side walls r more rounded than the cs2.

                      • Replaced my front pair of Dunlops at 16k(!!!) with Sava's - lasted until around 50(?) thou, when I replaced them with new rims/tyres. 'Rapid' was the (useless) brand.
Then at 90k I replaced the Rapid's with 235/40R18 Hankook's. $600 for the set, fitted and balanced.
Up to 103k now and still look to have maybe 7-8mm(?) left on the front... And I floor/spin when I have to (again, sydney traffic and merging onto highways etc - especially after being pulled over on the phone!)

                        The Hankooks are amazing!

                        • Im running the CSC5P, I think they are softer than the 5, and I have a feeling they wont last that long.

however, ive heard decent reports about mileage of the 5.

Really? I read everywhere online the mileage being terrible, I was almost going for them. Bob Jane Moorabbin wanted $250 for them telling me they retail for $500 but they buy lots. Ended up getting Michelin PS3's for $240 a corner from them the other week. The PS3's came in 1-2 spots better than CS5's in all tests in a MOTOR mag roundup of ten different companies 'bests'. Overall third I think. Not sure yet wether the premium going from $150 to $250 tires is worth it yet. Guess it comes down to emergency stopping and wet weather corners... time will tell

                            • Guys,
I don't understand how you get the mileage?
My first set were gone in 25k km (Dunlop OEMs) and I am up for another set now at 60 k km just on the 2nd year of ownership (so 35k km on conti CC5s which are more of a touring tyre than a sports tyre) – all well rotated and aligned…… Admittedly I have a bit of a heavy foot and there are lots of roundabouts on my daily commute but half my miles are done on the highway…….

Perhaps I need to put a brick under the accelerator or somehow lose some of the torque?

                              • My Michelin PS3's on the rear look like they will do 60k
My Goodyear F1A2 on the front look like they will do around 45k
I would have expected the Conti CS5's to last well - most Conti's do (no idea about the Dunlops)
Do you brake while steering into corners? That's something that will give the fronts a bad time (on a FWD car)

A lot of roundabouts can give the left front tyre of a FWD a bad time (ease the steering on - don't yank the steering quick/hard)
You can move the front right tyre to the left front rim without turning the tyre around to even out the wear
Just depends how much your local tyre shop will charge you
Put chaulk marks on the tires and watch them do it to ensure they get it right

What tyre pressures are you running?
