Resurrecting... I mentioned the rattle in November to service at Nepean Motor Group. Finally chased them up (after they said they'd ordered the part and never bothered to call me back) and had the rattle fixed yesterday. It's surprising how much nicer it is to drive (maybe just because I've put up with it so long). My wife spoke to the dealership rep and he said it was a fix issued by Skoda... Worth mentioning at service time if you've been putting up for it as long as I have!

Wastegate Rattle on Accelaration - Fix issued by VwAG

I am very interested to hear about all this.
I have had the noise since new and when I took my car in last week for a service (Peninsula VW/Skoda) I told them of the problem when I booked and when I dropped the car off.
When I picked it up I was told there is no noise and even if there was there is no TPI for the VRS TSI. Even after talking to the tech who supposedly did the work on my car he categorically stated that "there is not noise and I have never heard of that type of thing on any car with that engine". I call bull****!
I asked them to road test the car with the windows down and accelerate between 2-3000rpm to easily identify the noise. They said they didn't have time and it was not evident at idle.
He then suggested I book the car in for another whole day so they can investigate it further.
Is it also true that the clip they use to fix the problem actually opens the wastegate earlier and by an extras 2mm therefore reducing power slightly?*****CURRENTLY FOR SALE***** See Sale thread

bout a year ago, i had a vw tech sit with me in the car to show him the "rattling".
he struggled to hear it, and when he did eventually here it, he said "that's nothing compared to racket made on the GTi's!!!"
at that time there was no tpi for skoda. i didn't bother since, and don't plan to pursue it any further.MY17 Superb 162TSI, Business Grey, Tech+Comfort Pack, APR ECU+TCU Stg 1, SLA, Rieger Splitter + Side Skirts, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Hardrace Swaybar, TPMS

Hmmm, sorry to hear that and I also call bull****. The noise for mine was quite noticeable with the windows down, and I believe I had a fairly moderate case. I can only go on NMG's willingness to fix it and the fact that he told my wife that it was an issued fix. Perhaps it isn't, but you'd have to wonder why they would go to the trouble of ordering the part for me to come another day and actually fix it
No decrease in power that I've noticed, but I imagine a few killer wasps is going to be rather hard to ascertain.

I have been off these forums for a couple of years. Was just looking through the threads trying to find info on the 2013 car and I saw this thread! It's nice to know that I am not going insane. I have complained about this issue every service and they reply "we can't hear anything". I am going to call them today.MY10 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon 2.0 TSI 6sp Man

Just reviving an old thread!
I had my 30,000km service on Friday at Peninsula VW/Skoda in Frankston (SE Melbourne).
At the 15,000km service I told them about the wastegate actuator rattle and simply wanted it fixed. They said there was no campaign to fix that and because it wasn't an issue that affected reliability that it won't be fixed.
This time around I made a bit of a song and dance that it was getting worse and I just wanted it fixed. Much to my surprise they did and the problem is gone! I enquired if there was a campaign number regarding it and the exact response was "no there is not, but we have been told that was can fix it with the clip as needed from now on".
I know this is not definative, but as least it means some dealers might be more willing to do it if they are made aware of the problem .
As an aside though - I got home with the car smelling badly of oil - so I opend the bonnet to find I had no oil cap and the top of the engine and underside of the bonnet was covered with oil! Freaked out and angry I called the dealer and to their credit they sent someone to my house with a new cap and offered to steam clean the engine for me. Still, not a nice experience.Last edited by candy_wagon; 01-07-2013, 03:16 PM.*****CURRENTLY FOR SALE***** See Sale thread

hopefully there was no damage caused driving without the oild cap, due to no pressure being held.MY17 Superb 162TSI, Business Grey, Tech+Comfort Pack, APR ECU+TCU Stg 1, SLA, Rieger Splitter + Side Skirts, Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Hardrace Swaybar, TPMS

Wasn't there a thread here somewhere, about the exact same happening with a Corolla after a service, with photos of the aftermath (it caught fire)? Guess you were lucky it didn't go that far candy_wagon. Not surprised you were annoyed! I'll bet you could steam clean it every week for the next three months and still not get all the oil cleaned up. I think I'll be popping the bonnet before I drive away from my next service...MY 22 Superb Sportline Wagon. Moon White.

Yep, I'm still annoyed but I went back to the dealer yesterday and had the engine cleaned and demanded an error check, oil top up and good look over by their senior tech. Luckily all seems fine and they have given me a token $100 off my next service.
The service manager I spoke to when I called tried to fob me off by saying that caps pop off from time to time, but I have never ever heard that happening before. The tech who helped me yesterday honestly said someone has stuffed up and I was lucky it wasn't a whole lot worse.
Aside from all this though, its very nice not to have the wastegate rattle any more!*****CURRENTLY FOR SALE***** See Sale thread
