Not necessarily. I told the dealer what the mileage would be at the end of four months (approximately), he knew what the state of reg was and we did a deal with a fixed trade in price.

We're only likely to do 1000k's in that time with nothing but work planned, so we will see.

You need to have the agreement regarding fixed value as part of the sale contract (i.e. IN WRITING) if you are concerned about it.

Hehe....mine took under a week - bought one that went straight from the docks to the dealer, test drove it an hour later, and nobody else drove it until I picked it up a week later. (Thanks to the guys at Mentone Skoda )

                  Coming out of the woodwork...

October last year I sold my MkV GTI, and been looking around for something that had 2 more doors as well as a larger boot. Looked at a few cars and finally settled on the Skoda Octavia RS.

Anyway, I put the order in Nov last year, but wanted the car built this year.

So, it was built on the 5 week this year (Feb) and is currently on the Manon, on it's way over. It should arrive on the 28th March and I should be taking delivery a couple of weeks after that. (fingers crossed)

Hoping everything goes well. It's a white RS TSI (liftback) with leather, xenons, sat nav, rear wiper, and park sensors all round, bought from North Shore Skoda. Angelo and Roy looked after us very well. They allowed us to test drive quite a few cars before we made a decision without being pushy or anything. Very communicative about progress too.

So, it's about a 5 month wait, but I'm not too fussed. Will be good when I get it...

                    Congrats Dodgey,

I was told yesterday that expected docking was around the 30/3 and build date was the 5th week, must be the same boat. I've tried to track the boat without success. Not long now........

                      Same build week, same ship

Well, they sent me a screen cap of the info from Skoda Australia, valid as of the 4th of March.

Amongst other info, it was order #309, built on 3/2/10, the ship name is Manon, and the ship arrival is 28th March.

Hope it all goes well for you too, Dutch.

Edit: According to this, it's near South Africa....

W&W Track and Trace says it left Bremerhaven on 17/02/2010 and will be discharged at Port Kembla on the 30/03/2010..

When do you usually get tracking information? My dealer has not provided me anything other than ""ït'll be 4 months"".

They made me laugh by managed to call me for a sales lead followup last week.

Them: You were speaking to so and so, this is a follow up call to see if you'd thought about it any further.

Me: Uh actually mate, I *bought* the car off so and so. I'm waiting for a delivery date, can you get them to call me? K thanks, bye.

Basically when the order gets into the factory system the vehicle is allocated a VIN. Once you have the VIN you can track and trace the vehicle on the shipping companies web site so you will know the date the vehicle arrives at the port in Australia. It's then up to about 2 weeks (sometimes a bit longer) until it gets into your hands.

Give the dealer 3-4 weeks from placing the order then hassle them to give you the VIN. Don't take no for an answer make them do their job.

I got back to Canberra last Wednesday night. First stop on Thursday morning was the Skoda dealer to find out about the delivery.

Mine is also coming on the Manon, arriving on 30/3. Is 14/4 still looking reasonable?

Mind you, I still have to sort out the salary packaging paperwork...

That might be slightly optimistic. A lot depends on when Patricks decide to do their bit and deliver your car to the dealer. Sometimes they can take a while, and VW seems to have very little influence on when Patricks will hand over the car. Once the dealer has it they can usually get it ready in 3-4 days (depending on how busy they are).

But it will be worth the wait - every Skoda owner I've talked to just loves their car (especially if it is an RS)

After receiving a letter in the mail yesterday I found out the head VW salesman who *was* handling my order has left NMG. So I called them to find out if they had actually ordered it. The new head of sales said I had good cause to call, they called back some hours later to confirm they had already ordered it and it'd be late may/early june. I wouldn't be surprised if they couldn't find it and have just ordered it.

But it explains why I couldn't get a call back. I wonder how long ago he left.

And he had no clue about the tracking of VINs.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, if they sent a letter saying two of their salemen had left, the ****eth has hiteth the fanneth.... but this is feeling like I might have to duck down and see them on the weekend. I don't mind waiting, but I'd like to know why I can't get a VIN if its been ordered and has been given a build date.
