He doesn't need to know how to track a car using the VIN, all he has to do is ask the dealers stock control person for it.

As I have stated before, there are no "good" reasons why not, only "bad" (incompetence) or "worse" (not ordered, or ordered but leaving themselves the possibility of selling "your" car to someone else for a higher price).

I'd be pushing harder for a more believable explanation for the lack of a VIN, otherwise you may be in for a much longer wait than you expected.

I agree the company stock controller will (or at least should) have the VIN. All the salesman has to do is get it and pass it on to you. It's the VIN for your car it's not a secret and there is no reason for you not to have it.
If the salesman is no good ring the dealership and ask to speak with the stock controller and ask them to confirm the VIN and the date the factory registered the order. It could be interesting.

I asked a local Mazda Dealer here for the VIN so I could start getting insurance finance etc, and heard nothing for ages. After chasing them up they gave it to me, and somehow from the tone of the voice I figured out the car was actually sitting somewhere in Melbourne. Sure enough from the day I bought it, it was just sourced from stock held and was in a holding yard somewhere. Noone at any stage had thought to tell me it was there the whole time and I spent two months waiting for no reason.

          That sucks.

He said he should be able to tell me what ship its on - I'll suggest he talks to the stock controller. I think the new guy has been thrown in the deepend, but I'm going to go down on the weekend and speak face to face.

The funny thing is, I *want* to have a relationship with these guys because they have a 6 year warranty if I service it through them (and as long as they don't rip me off with servicing I'm more than happy with that).

I used to work for an ISP on helpdesk support for a local company, and I never understood why some customers were very disappointed when something went wrong (not just annoyed). The older I get, the more I understand that you want to be able to trust the person you're handing over your cold hard earned money to. And this has not been a good start for NMG

            Ok.. I feel stupid(er)

I have read and re-read this thread and cannot find the "tracking link" mentioned. I have a VIN all I need is the site to find our new baby.

The shipping company is Whilelmsen Logistics you should be able to track your VIN through this page I think. It looks like the page I started at but don't ask for specific instructions from me at least I think I fluked the actual page I needed.

Thanks for that - nothing showing yet. Built week 9 (day 4) so hopefully it will show up soon.

Mine must be on the same ship as everyone elses. Ordered about 19/12/09 told "three months from date of order" Told last week the ship was due on the 29/3 then "10 days to the dealer" but the dealer has told the lease company delivery will be on the 20/4. The test drive was good I hope mine will be better, but the excitement is wearing off.

                      • Ive got a mate who unloads the ships at Port Kembla and he says its in today. On the ship tracking site its showed it on the 22/3 off the coast of WA. I guess it has already been to Melbourne.

                        • The ship tracking site was great till it got to Perth, I think it then dropped off a couple of nice Golf R's (first in the country i believe) then headed our way, i've got a good feeling about this shipment the result of which we'll see in a few weeks

Doesn't appear to be in the Willenius Willhelmsen tracking yet. Couple of months to get here?

                              • My ship departed Germany on 23/3/10 and arrives Brisbane on 4/5/10
Might give you some indication of how long delivery is expected.

It goes to UK and Africa frst, then Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane.
