Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If the headlamp assemblies are the same in the pre-FL then from memory they are easy to remove...they are w5w globes are they?
Yes. I can only access them from the back, and there's some sort of black box power thingo about 2inches square making it harder. I can get it with long nose pliers but it won't budge with a lot of abuse

Its top left in the left headlight

    • I think the black box is the height adjustment for the low beam. be careful if you remove it.

      • Got the Revo Stage 1 ECU upgrade installed today!

Had to drive back home in city traffic so have not had a chance to test it at all.
Have some long drives coming up this weekend, so looking forward to stretching the legs.
        435Nm FTW!

Next step will be to install the anti-lift kit sitting in the boot. Wanted to see what the ECU upgrade would do to stock suspension setup before I installed the ALK so I had a proper comparison.

Will update with some thoughts once I have had a chance to play.

Did they have to open up the ECU and solder on a new chip or was it done via the OBD port?

Last time I checked they could map Tiguan ECUs but my Yeti. I dont know why as they are both the same motor so I would have thought VAG would use the same ECU.

          Happy Days.

          • Yeah the ecu is encrypted. Has to be physically removed and unlocked on the bench with special equipment. Then reinstalled and it can then be flashed via the odbII port.

Bluefin uses the port in octys, should be the same...

              • Newer ecus are encrypted and can't be flashed directly via odbII before they are unlocked.

                    • The diesel ecu is different to the petrol afaik. And even then some are locked and others aren't. It's pot luck. Got it done at Vw village. Extra $130 for the unlock.

Not sure what the go is with those side lights I will have to pull a headlight out again.
Working on another secret project atm (rns related ) so will try and get around to it to see.

Yes. I'm pulling on the back of the globe itself almost, where the wires go in, but for some reason the clip is giving me trouble and I can't see where I need to press or squeeze

There are differences. Some work & some don't. It's a crap shoot.

I thought it was a twist but I've never been in there, so don't take my word for it.

What does it say in the owners manual?

                              • the TDI engines have always been harder to "crack" with regards to ECU tuning.

likewise, the just because the same engine is used over at the VW stables, it doesn't mean the ECU will b the same - hence it may require different "cracking" methods.
