Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Will try to.

      Wheel alignment done.

Last items are arrival of the EPROM and a proper exterior detail.

Then time to get a new project... :-/

Completed tonight. EPROM in and power delivery is so much better.

Might get an after one done, but I can't be bothered getting the ECU out again to plot it stock.

Stock ECU socketed or do you have to desolder the original chip? Is the upgrade worth it on a stock ABF?

What did it cost? Im tempted if it makes a perceivable difference on my stock GTi

Yes. But there are so many other things these old engines need to have working properly before you get the full advantage. O2 sensor was the biggest gain in performance before the EPROM.

It seems to be running fine, anyway I can use VCDS to determine if my O2 sensor needs replacing?

I can't remember the exact price but around 250 euro.

As for the O2 sensor, I just replaced it as a matter of course, got one from UK for $70.

Shame you are not closer otherwise you could test it. I would get an adjustable cam pulley too FWIW.

You have an adjustable cam pulley installed to adjust cam timing to correspond with EEPROM map?

The cam pulley is there regardless. It helps without the EPROM too. Advancing the cam timing brings the power band down in the rev range to make it more usable. The car now has pretty linear feel to power delivery - I suppose I need to get it on a dynamometer.

That would be cool. I found this dyno chart on a stock ABF with garlock, looks like gains of 14KW at the fly

Think I've done an injector on #3. Leads, plug, new cap, button and still no love. Fingers crossed that's all it is... Will pull it out today to check and test.
