Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

tagged this on to the order as it sounded like $35 well spent…

                  • added a few more bits at the weekend. the dog bone mount upgrade is one of the easiest and cheapest mods i've done; would highly recommend to anyone. the bolt was bloody tight to back off though, like the length of my persuader...

once greased up it was easy to slip in...

installed and torqued to f king tight...

surprised at the state of the original bolt, might explain why it was so tight...

next on to the front brake pads, originals removed...

                    new ones fully lubed up...

and finally installed with a quick wipe down...

ran out of time to do the rear brakes before heading to the newmarket meet. a couple of photos...

                    and lastly...

                          • got a few more bits fitted over the weekend…

i took this shot for reference before i started…

the destructions reckoned you can just pull the original linkage off the splines, yeah good luck. after a bit of vigorous tugging i nearly put my back out and gave myself a hernia at the same time. i then decided to make my own jack off screw, nothing rude, i just used a bolt to jack the linkage off the box…

i also got the haldex on too. i didn't really want to cut the grommet in the boot floor but it appeared to be the best option and dropped the plug right in the location of the controller…

all hooked up and the boot put back together. fits in pretty neat and looks fairly factory…

and just so i can remember what controls what…

also for future reference i decided i want to find out what all the option codes are if possible. should anyone know how to decipher the codes it would be much appreciated…

finished off by giving the bike a clean, i'll be doing a bit more work on this now the s3 is finished (all except the coolant hoses to go one)…

                              • How does the new gear shifter feel? I see you also got the metal side to side arm which i believe is off the older (Mk4 era) cars, before they cheaped out and moved to plastic. I've been thinking about possibly getting another short shifter (i had the DieselGeek shifter before but hated it...so notchy) and didn't know whether to get NeuSpeed, HPA or Forge.

I've currently got the 42DD solid linkage bushings which make a nice difference to the feel of the gears and reduced ALOT of the rubbery-ness of the stock shifter, and have just bought the Verdict Motorsports bushings that replace some of the bushings where the shift linkage bracket connects to the gearbox.

And how do you like the Haldex upgrade? Have you had a chance to test it out yet?
