Fuel Consumption - What do YOU get?

I have had many issues with my 118TSI engine and gearbox over the time that I have had it, the latest being a replacement of the turbo.

Since that time I had noticed that I was filling up more often than I was previously, so I decided to reset the trip computer and monitor the fuel usage more intently

I now find that I have a fuel consumption of 10litres per 100km - I think this is far higher than than it should be for a 1.4 litre engine running on 98 octane (I am sure I was obtaining around 8litres per 100kms before the replacement)

Would like some feed back before I head back once again to Volkswagen.....

yes, your economy is too high. I get 7.2 around town and 6.5 on highway...and I get up the car also

10L is way too high for your car. I get 9.7L in my modified Golf R (city driving) and 7.8L in my GTI.

Well...perhaps not. The issue with these 118TSI engines is that they run FAR too lean (not enough fuel). This causes the engine to run hot and detonate....and eventually they go bang. If yours is using more fuel, then perhaps VW have updated your software and the car is now running richer (more fuel).

Would an old air filter on a 45000km car cause high fuel consumption? Ive cleaned it by vacuuming it. Would i still need to buy a new one? Thanks yall

im bout 11.2L in a 147 jetta?
I think that's too high aswell....but even if I baby it I can't get it down...I have no idea why
then I again I shoulda got a diesel if I was so worried bout petrol...get 450kms a tank max...all city driving

My 118TSI Golf Cab is at a long term average of 9.5L/100km running a APR Stage 1.

For my that's Super Extra City Driving on very short trips through back streets, consumption has been up to mid 11's. Now I know that's 99% related to the way I drive

When I get a chance to get out on the open road that drops down under 7 under ideal circumstances. The book says 5.6L/100km, but I've never seen it that low for a long drive, but then sitting on 110km/h isn't the most efficient, drop to 100km/h and you will see an improvement.

The 8.5L/100km quoted city is definitely possible, I can get my normal trip down under 8 if I drive very nicely and really try... The real problem is torque isn't actually cheap

That's funny, because I don't drive that slow, often take off quickly from the lights if I'm up front on the highway, and trips are often <10 mins. The worst I can get is around 9.5 if I'm absolutely caning it through twisties. Must be all that city traffic you have to deal with.

I have a 147 with stage 1 APR. I find around town I can get under 10 if I am a bit conservative and around 10.5-11 with some more adventurous driving. On the highway I go down to Byron quite often and I can get as low as 6-6.5 sticking around the speed limits and using speed cruise most of the time. I have found the APR Stage 1 to be most agreeable to the fuel consumption.

2012 118 tsi Jetta I get 16 km/l or 6.25 litres per 100 km on RON 95.

In my MY13 147 I also get around 11-12 l/100 km city driving, short trips which I find way too high. My '06 golf 2.0 used to do around 8 from memory, same trips. Not too happy about the Jetta's consumption.

twincharger. 225/45 r17 tyres. Cai. S3 intercooler. 80% highway driving. Air con used sparingly. Cruise control set to about 55-65 mph. Coasting used at times.
