Because I am (in my mid-80's I feel I'm entitled to be), I'll just call myself Idle.
Presently I loaf around Melbourne, Victoria.
Current transport is a white Golf VI 103TDI, replacing a 20+ year-old MX83 Cressida.
Whether it's a change for the better is yet to be determined — the Cressida rode nicely (better than the Golf), handled well, ran like a watch, didn't rust, rattle or smoke and never once failed to get me there and back again.
In 20 years it required its pads replaced once, its tyres once, one indicator bulb replaced, one set of belts, a starter solenoid contact plate and the A/C overhauled — at trade-in time it was showing 160,000K.
Will the VW do as well? — I'll probably not live to find out, but apart from being thumped in the side by the bull-bar of a lane-changing prime mover the first 3000K have been trouble-free.
hi im cole im currently not an owner of a volkswagon vehicle and prob wont be for some time.though i am a vw tech at a dealership and have plenty of love for the brand that vw is,
Hi folks,
New to this forum, and to all this online stuff really.
First VW was a beetle, 2nd a hot red 63 beetle with Bilsteins and a bit of grunt, but it was bent by a relo. Then a few other cars. 3 months ago, looking for a Subaru Impreza replacement with a bit more grunt and a bit more quiet on the road (no problems with engine noise, just road noise from our crap rural roads) and so we got our first new VW, an 04 Bora 4Motion.
First impressions - grunt to spare, handling terrific but less chuckable on tight stuff than the subie, all the leather and soundproofing makes for a lovely ride, almost booring if you just toodle along in 5th and 6th. Then the front left suspension squeak (we suspect the rear A arm mount) and water leak (sun roof drain? or aerial mount?) detracted a little from the initial glow, but we are addressing those.
Hence this forum membership, really. I am way out of touch with modern cars in general and VWs in particular. But keen to catch up, and there is no substitute for owners knowledge and experience.
Bring on the learning curve.
Cheers,
Rod

I'm told that as my car has to come from the factory it will be around March 2010 before I have the opportunity to fully call it mine.
I snooped around this forum for a few weeks prior to signing up for the car and from all accounts, people love it, so I can't wait...
Also the Tiguan forum provides the most interesting facts about the vehicles highs, lows and quirks. Thankyou to those who have passed on this knowledge as it makes it so much easier for newbies like myself.
Looking forward to being able to share my experiences with the forum as my journey with my Tiguan develops
