My name is David Hynd. I live with my wife and five children on the New England Tablelands NSW. We recently decided that a convertible would be a fun toy for the family to play with and because my best mate owns a Mk.2 Golf we went looking for a Golf Cabriolet. We finally settled on one for sale on Ebay in Brisbane and bought it last Saturday (21/11/09). I'm not entirely sure what we've bought because the car came with no history. It looks like a genuine Karmann cabriolet but my mate was surprised when I told him that it's a 1.6 litre. He insists that they were mostly GTI spec. On the way back south from Brisbane on Saturday with temps. in the high 30's I didn't realise that the radiator had a crack in it and we overheated. While waiting for the NRMA to arrive I noticed that the passenger side suspension tower bears a conversion plate. I wonder if the "conversion" was from left to right hand drive? The car is generally very straight and should make a nice addition to the family - after we sort out the obvious mechanical problems. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of your collective knowledge and experiences to keep our latest baby on the road. Thanks, David Hynd.
My name is Fin, I live in Sydney and will be taking delivery of our new R36 Wagon 15th December. It will actually be primarily my wife's car, I drive a JCW Mini. My friends say I've got the girls car and she's getting the boys car.
The last many years the family wagon has been a Subaru 3.0R, did have a look at the new Liberty GT but just couldn't cop the look of the thing. So VW it is.
Curiously I was unable to test drive the R36 prior to purchase; having to settle for a spin in the V6 Passat CC. Is this usual? Our dealer indicated that you cannot test drive an R36.
Anyway got a great deal on the car due to my professional associations' relationship with VW. It probably is not news to this forum but if you are a member of a professional association it is well worth mentioning this to your VW dealer. It's good for 10% of the RRP and dealer delivery is cut to $975 plus of course with reduced price you save on luxury car tax.
Hey guys,
My names Brandon, fell in love with the Golf 6 GTI and seriously looking to upgrade and found this website to be very informative and hope to be part of the golf community asap!
Hi folks,
My name's Phil.
I ordered a Tiguan TDI manual in August and expect it to be delivered in the next couple of weeks.
The extras include:
- SATNAV with RVC
- Leather upholstery
- Comfort package
- Front fog lights
This is my first VW in 30yrs and I'm stepping out of a thirsty Forester XT (auto) so it will be a learning curve in a few departments .
Hopefully VW Watercooled will have the answers as the questions come up.
Cheers,
Phil
We are proud owners of an '89 T25 Transpoter; The Bue Rocket (and a '77 Bay; Kenny the Kombi). We have owned the Rocket for about 6 years now and we have had many journeys to 1770 and back a few times, Goulburn and back a gazillion times, Albury and back, Sydney, Tamworth, Emerald QLD. It has never left us stranded and one of the best things about driving a car that is a little diffrent is that you can always find it in a car park, no matter how crowded it is. Just a little somthing I though I would share with you.
We are currently looking at having airconditiong installed in the Rocket if anyone could suggest a tradesman or someone who has had air coninstalled after market in a similar model (ie motor in rear of vehicle).
Thanks
Stay cool Australia

Hi guys,
Just ordered a Tig 147 for the missus on the weekend and used info from this site so thought i'd sign up and contribute where i can. We're moving on from a 2004 Passat V6SE as the family car and looking forward to it.
I'm also looking at swapping my ride over for the new GTI so will probably have a few questions about it too.
Hey there guys,
have been watching this group for some time and finally decided to join: especially since I've just placed an order for a new GTI
My first VW ownership experience was a 1996 Golf GL Classic, metallic green, which I bought new and enjoyed for three years before trading it in on an Audi A3 in 1999. Ten years on, I'm about to re-enter the VAG "fold" again, after a few "detours": Citroën C5 Hdi (fantastic car and, sorry to say, far more reliable than the A3! Sold it only because I moved to UK), Saab 9-3 (briefly) and BMW 523i (E39) while in London, and since returning to Australia in 2007 I've had a Volvo XC70 (bought from a mate as a "stopgap" only, but handy for loadlugging Ikea flatpacks <lol>).
As soon as I saw the Mk6 GTI, I knew it was for me. I was lucky enough to an a place at the Eastern Creek Track Day (in the 41 deg heat on Melb Cup Day!), and that was enough to inspire me to place my order.
Hey guys, new but not new really. I'm Nathan!
Had a 05 VW GTI but i've sold it now for a new XR8 ute.
Have a full alpine setup from the GTI that im selling, just thought id drop that.
Hi fellows,
always admired Golf I but on the other hand german..'s/cars somehow like to stay away from. So here it is the compromise, Guigaro styled spanish VW cousin.
Drived ibica gti and like it much but I really need four door and cordoba looks nicer in my eyes. Tried a few, all very solid but 1.8 glx monojet enigne is asthmatic so I settled down for 1998/99 white 1.6 sxe with 205K but still taut and spirited. This engine has SIMOS MPI (belive 2.2 version), crosflow sohc head (like ABA overseas) and long (belive variable) inlet manifold. Additionally has the best (read lowest) gearbox ratio(incl. final) of all imported seats. The engine is shorter stroke version of the large sohc block (i.e. tilted backwards, unlike polo 1.6) and spins very nicley, even sound is not bad (seems they learnt something during long Fiat marriage), much better than 1.8.
Bought the car in Sydney for $2500 with non working A/C & slight panel damage.
Intend to do some suspension mods first and like to tell you about non G12 coolant experieince but this shall be enough for this post
Cheers.
