  • Hi guys, name is Dave

Currently driving a 2009 VRX Lancer.

Looking to downsize to an older car (something like a VR6) so I can move OS at the end of the year. Just joined up to find out a few pros and cons of the cars.

post your problems in the mk2 section and well will find you answers. (well...try)

I love my mk2...and it gives me a buzz seeing other on the road
I'm just about to trade my black Mk2 in for a Mk VI 118TSI.
I,ve owned the Mk2 since new and it has only done 166,000K I'm sorry to see it go but as you have experienced not many garages know how to service them properly and the dealers don't want to know you if your car is more than 5 years old.

Great car though before this on I never kept a car more than 2 years.

        cheers

        • Buying Golf MKVI soon...

          Hi Guys...

I do not own a VW but have decided my next car will be a MkVI Golf.

I've pretty well decided everything I want but cannot decide - 103TDI or 118TSI? I've joined to get some info to help me in my decision - so I guess I'll be putting my questions in the relevant section...

          Cheers,
          - Anthony.

          • Tiguan TDI - first 6 months

Been a big VW fan for a while now. Karmann Ghia is still one of my most desirable cars to own when my kids are old enough to move out heheh...

Well, I've just handed my Tiguan TDi over to VW for its first service.
I must say, overall I'm quite impressed with just about everything. I knew the boot space was shallow and narrow when I bought it, it bothered me for the first month, then I got used to it. I carry a lot of gear and one of the rear seats is almost permanently down.

My Tiguan is a 6 speed manual and has a GPS/HDD system with a reverse camera, which is well worth the money, and I would recommend it to anyone. One thing I do regret is not getting leather. The cloth trim is like a magnet for dirt and especially dog or cat hair. We have a golden retriever and although it has never been in the car, there are dog hairs lodged so deep in the upholstery they have to be picked out one at a time - annoying...

Another, relatively minor thing, is the electronic hand brake. Great idea and works well 99.9% of the time, in the "auto" mode however it tends to come on when you're moving at very low speeds, like when reverse parking or driving into a garage. First time it happened it freaked me out because it makes a crunching sound as if you had hit something. The solution is simple; when doing any low-speed manouvering turn the thing off and use the big hand brake button as you would in a mechanical system.

Other than than, the car is an absolute joy to drive. When I first took it for a test drive I was expecting it to handle like a Toureg, to my surprised it handled more like a Golf. It still does, and that's the best thing about it.

That and the fuel economy I get 820-840km out of a 60L tank.

Now the next step - accessories!!!!!

                    • In Anticipation - 118TSI manual - United Grey

                      Hey everyone,

I have been using your forum a lot over the last couple of months to upgrade my commodore wagon and decided it was time to register. I put a deposit down six weeks ago for a mk6 golf, 118TSI manual - United Grey just with tint and mats, should be here any day now...?

I had been looking at a TDi for a long time but when I saw the power/economy stats on the 118TSi I had to try it and that was it.

                      Cheers

                      Cameron
